Chapter 34 - Chapter 36 Shadows at the Celebration

The estate shimmered under lantern light, casting a warm glow over the sprawling gardens and the grand hall where guests had begun arriving. The faint scent of roses and jasmine mingled with the crisp evening air, creating a momentary illusion of peace. David and Precious moved through the crowd, their hands tightly clasped, every glance shared a silent reassurance, a promise of unity amidst unseen threats.

Even as laughter and music filled the rooms, a subtle tension threaded through the celebration. The delayed deliveries of flowers, a missing centerpiece, and the small argument between staff members earlier in the day now felt like warnings of something greater. David noticed each irregularity, his mind racing, calculating, protective.

"Precious," he whispered as they stepped to the edge of the hall, away from the crowd, "I feel it again… someone is watching, testing us. Someone wants to unsettle us."

Precious's hand rested against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. "We can handle it," she said softly, leaning close. "Together, we are stronger than fear. Nothing they do can shake that."

Meanwhile, in the shadows outside, Kenty and Sonko observed the estate. Their earlier encounter in the market had grown into a dangerous alliance. Kenty's eyes were sharp, her presence commanding even in quiet observation. Her anger at her sister's happiness and the sense of stolen attention fueled her patience and precision. Sonko, silent and calculating, guided the plan with meticulous timing, ensuring that every minor disruption would sow tension without exposing them too soon.

"They think love is enough to protect them," Sonko said quietly, a smirk curling at his lips. "But love alone can't shield them from every shadow."

Kenty's gaze hardened as she watched her sister laugh with David. "Tonight, they celebrate, blind to what is approaching. They will feel the first tremors of a storm, and they won't see me coming until the ripple hits."

Inside the estate, David intercepted a minor conflict among the staff over a misplaced invitation. Calmly, he reassured the young women, guiding them back to their duties with patience and quiet authority. Precious observed him with admiration and love. "Even in chaos, he remains steady," she thought. "Together… nothing can break us."

The night deepened, lantern light reflecting on the polished floors, creating a sense of beauty that masked the tension lurking in the shadows. Outside, Kenty and Sonko were patient predators, watching every smile, every gesture of affection, planning the subtle disruptions that would eventually ripple into more serious challenges.

Even as the music swelled and the celebration flowed, the couple could feel the tension, unspoken and invisible, threading through the joyous evening. The shadows were already present; it was only a matter of time before the first wave struck.
