Chapter 40 - Chapter 42 Fractured Alliance

Evening descended upon the estate, draping the grounds in golden lantern light. Guests danced, laughed, and toasted to love, yet beneath the celebration, tension hummed. A server misstepped, spilling wine onto the pristine tablecloth, while a minor argument broke out between two caterers over a dessert tray. Each ripple of disruption was subtle but deliberate, and Kenty had orchestrated them carefully until the voice of conscience began to break through her resolve.

"Why are you doing this?

Your sister… your family… why hurt them?"

Kenty froze, her fingers gripping the railing as if she could anchor herself to the real world. Her heart raced; the thrill of manipulation was now mingled with guilt.

Sonko's sharp tone cut through the shadows. "Focus! Don't let sentiment weaken you. This is only the beginning."

"I… I can't…" Kenty's voice wavered. "I want to stop, but the plan… it's too late now."

Suspicion flared in Sonko's eyes.

Has she always planned to betray me?

Is this hesitation a hidden rebellion?

The first seeds of doubt had taken root in his mind, and a dangerous tension now simmered between the two conspirators.

Inside, David and Precious moved through the crowd, subtly noticing the disruptions—the minor accidents, the hesitant staff, the way some guests glanced around as if unsure. They sensed an unseen hand attempting to unsettle the day. David whispered, "Someone is trying to manipulate this celebration, but we will remain calm. Nothing will ruin it."

Precious nodded, squeezing his hand. "Together. No matter what."

The alliance between Kenty and Sonko, once solid and unshakable, began to fracture—her conscience eroding her focus, his suspicion feeding his ruthlessness. The first true cracks in their partnership had appeared.
