Chapter 39 - Chapter 41 The First Blow

The morning sun had barely kissed the estate when the first guests began arriving. The gardens were alive with color—flowers meticulously arranged, pathways lined with lanterns, and the faint scent of jasmine mingling with the morning breeze. David and Precious moved gracefully among the staff, checking last-minute arrangements with smiles that radiated calm, though tension tightened their chests.

Kenty and Sonko lingered on the fringes, hidden behind trees and shadows, their eyes sharp, calculating. Kenty's heart raced, but it was not just excitement, it was guilt mingled with fear. The voice in her head whispered relentlessly.

"Why betray your family, your sister? Why destroy what you once cherished?"

Sonko, sensing hesitation, leaned closer. "Focus, Kenty," he hissed. "This is your moment. No room for doubt. Remember why we started."

Kenty's fingers clenched at her sides. Part of her longed to flee, to step back into the family she had abandoned in ambition and pride. Yet, the thrill of power and the carefully orchestrated plan rooted her to the shadows.

Inside the hall, small disruptions began. A misplaced invitation caused a ripple of confusion. A flower arrangement was slightly askew, drawing a few anxious glances from staff. These were minor, almost laughable mistakes—but enough to unsettle those who noticed. David caught each error immediately, his calm demeanor masking the careful assessment of every small disruption.

"Precious, someone is testing us," he whispered, brushing a loose petal back into place. "But we stay steady. Together, we face this."

Precious squeezed his hand, her eyes full of resolve. "Together," she murmured.

Outside, Kenty's gaze flicked to her sister. The sight of Precious laughing, radiant in her happiness, pricked her conscience like a thorn. Sonko noticed the hesitation, and suspicion flared in his eyes. Is she faltering? Has she already begun to betray me?

The first blow of disruption had landed, and with it came the first cracks in Kenty's resolve—a mixture of guilt, fear, and the dawning awareness of the consequences of her ambition.
