Chapter 166 - Chapter 166 Reverence

After saying goodbye to Carson, Ash and the gang made a special trip to visit the Snorlax's trainer . After all, suddenly waking up someone's Snorlax to do chores was a bit embarrassing. When the Snorlax trainer heard what happened, he just smiled, waved it off, and said if they wanted to thank him, they could cook him a good meal.

The man was only saying it casually, but Ash, who never played by the rules, immediately had Meowth set up a pot and started stir-frying. After finishing the dishes, Ash even pulled out a gourd and two wine glasses.

"Come on, old man, let's have a couple of shots!"

"Ahem!"

Suddenly, Ash felt a terrifying gaze burning into his back. Ash silently put down the wine glass and said to the man, "I forgot. I'm currently traveling, so I can't drink. You'll just have to drink by yourself, old man."

The Snorlax trainer looked at Lara, who was radiating a terrifying aura behind Ash, chuckled, and said, "No problem. You've prepared plenty, young man. You even have peanuts. I'll be perfectly happy drinking by myself here. You kids eat with me, and while we're at it, I can tell you some things about Snorlax. That squinty-eyed fellow over there, it looks like Snorlax is quite fond of you."

"!"

Brock shivered when he heard his words. He still vividly remembered Snorlax's flying kiss.

As Ash and the group chatted with the old man, they discovered he was actually a specialized Snorlax breeder. Of course, "breeding" in his case mostly meant waking Snorlax up on time to eat. But for someone who had accompanied Snorlax year-round, he knew its habits like the back of his hand.

These insights became valuable study material for Ash, Suzie, and Brock. After all, the trainer had spent nearly his entire life with Snorlax. His understanding of the species had long surpassed standard academic research. It was the understanding born of a lifetime of companionship.

After a few glasses of wine and finishing the food, he lay back contentedly on a rock.

"It's really nice talking with you young folks about Snorlax. Ah, it's been a long time since I've had such a good chat. But it's time for this old man to rest. You kids should be getting on your way. Go on, off you go."

"Thank you very much for the information. We'll be leaving now."

"Thank you for teaching us, Grandpa."

Although Ash and the others expressed their thanks, the only response they got was the old man's snoring. Seeing this, Ash smiled, took a blanket from Meowth, draped it over the old man, and quietly left.

After Ash and the group walked away, the corners of the man's mouth twitched up slightly. He adjusted the blanket himself and went back to sleep.

"I really didn't expect that old man to know so much..."

Brock was quite surprised by some of the details the man had pointed out that differed from standard textbook data.

Ash smiled and said, "That's why it's always right to hold reverence. You never know when someone more skilled will come along and shatter your preconceptions. Just like Uncle Eevee and his brothers' understanding of Eeveelutions, or that trainer's understanding of Snorlax just now. Oh right, this data will be perfect to show the Professors. Meowth, get the machine ready. We need to send this to Professor Oak."

"Right away, Boss. Sending it now."

Not long after Meowth sent the data, Professor Oak's call came through.

"Ash! Where did you get this data? I can't believe there are such detailed notes on Snorlax's habits!"

Seeing Professor Oak's shocked expression, Ash and the group laughed. "We got it in exchange for a meal."

After listening to their explanation, Professor Oak finally understood the story behind their travels.

"I see. To think there are people like that out there. It seems there are still areas us researchers haven't covered."

"I think it's just because he is used to it. After all, this is the experience he's gained from spending countless years with Snorlax."

"Truly impressive. Perhaps that's just another way of living."

Thinking of the beautiful village Ash described and the trainer's leisurely life, Professor Oak felt he understood a bit better.
