Beedrill had actually always known one thing: its species was not welcomed by people. To many, their species was simply considered too weak.
But Beedrill knew that as long as it worked hard, as long as it gave everything it had, it could fight for a future. Its father had been exactly like that.
And now, it was time to prove that its species was not weak. It was time to prove the capabilities of Ash, its master and lifelong best friend.
Even with a type disadvantage, it didn't matter! Its poison stinger would bring it victory. Thus, Beedrill looked toward Ash. Ash, who already shared a deep bond with Beedrill, nodded and said, "Go. Pierce through Dragonite with your poison stinger."
"Bzzzt!"
Beedrill nodded, then vanished in a flash, turning into an incredibly fast streak of light hurtling toward Dragonite. Seeing the bizarre Beedrill charging at his Dragonite, Lance immediately commanded, "Use Wing Attack!"
"Roar!"
Dragonite rapidly flapped its wings, whipping up a small hurricane. However, Mega Beedrill wasn't affected in the slightest; it continued to fly in erratic, unpredictable patterns, steadily closing in on Dragonite. Seeing Beedrill's speed, Lance finally realized something was wrong.
"Dragonite, that Beedrill has been constantly using Agility! Restrict its movements with a wide-range Flamethrower!"
"Roar!"
Hearing Lance's command, Dragonite found its opening and unleashed a massive burst of flames in all directions, using itself as the epicenter. However, Beedrill—who should logically be terrified of fire—did something no one expected. It actually used its stinger to pierce straight through the flames and charged directly at Dragonite. By now, Beedrill's stinger was glowing with a chilling, deep purple light.
Seeing Beedrill's purple-glowing stinger, Lance pulled a Pecha Berry from his pocket to prepare, then yelled, "Dragonite, Fire Punch!"
"Roar!"
Dragonite, already sharing a telepathic-like connection with Lance, knew without a doubt that Lance had a Pecha Berry ready. Thus, it ignited its fist with flames and punched right at Mega Beedrill.
BOOM!
The collision between the stinger and the fist generated a massive shockwave. Under the force of the Fire Punch, Mega Beedrill plummeted erratically toward the ground. Meanwhile, Dragonite retreated to Lance's side, its entire body flushed with an uncomfortable sickly purple hue.
"Dragonite, here!"
Seeing that Dragonite was indeed poisoned, Lance directly tossed it the Pecha Berry, which Dragonite quickly swallowed. However, something completely unexpected happened. The Pecha Berry had no effect.
That's right, the antidote berry was completely useless. Dragonite still wore a pained expression, and the purple hue on its body hadn't faded at all.
"Could it be..."
Realizing something, Lance looked over at Mega Beedrill, who had already recovered its health thanks to the effects of Ash's pill.
"Your goal was simply to poison Dragonite."
"Very smart, but no prize."
Seeing that Lance had finally figured out his plan, Ash stopped hiding it and patted Mega Beedrill. Mega Beedrill locked its target onto Dragonite, ready to deliver the final blow.
Lance saw the look in Mega Beedrill's eyes and knew the opponent was planning to launch the final strike. Therefore, he silently made a hand gesture.
His Charizard, which had been lying in ambush waiting to sneak attack, readied itself. Similarly, Mega Houndoom and Mega Absol, having spotted Charizard long ago, subtly began gathering power to protect Ash. At the same time, Arbok, who had been hiding in the shadows all along, prepared to ambush Lance the moment he gave an order.
And so, Ash and Lance kept their eyes locked on each other, waiting for the perfect moment to unleash a thunderous strike.
However, just as everyone was tensely awaiting the final clash, a certain girl's scream suddenly rang out.
"Hubby, save me!!!"
The sudden voice stunned everyone. Hearing Green's cry for help, Ash snapped his fingers.
"Gardevoir, if you please."
"Garde!"
Gardevoir suddenly appeared on the battlefield, immediately using Teleport to whisk Ash and his team away. Lance was left baffled by the sight. He truly hadn't expected the masked man to leave so abruptly just because of a single call for help.
However, Lance didn't know one thing: situations that would make Green scream at the top of her lungs through a megaphone were extremely rare. Setting aside the Nidoqueen and Nidoking Ash had left with them, Sabrina should have easily been able to use her psychic powers to teleport them away. But judging by the current situation, Green and Sabrina had likely encountered an incredibly dangerous threat. Otherwise, Sabrina wouldn't have been restricted from using Teleport, even though Ash always kept a trump card in reserve.
Lance was unaware of all this, but for now, he could at least breathe a sigh of relief. Today's battle had been far too unexpected for him. That masked man's combat prowess was utterly terrifying. Although part of the blame fell on his own underestimation of the opponent, if this had been a battle to the death, he would probably already be dead.
Thinking of this, Lance looked at Dragonite. Although it had recovered significantly under the healing of his Viridian power, the poison coursing through it still hadn't dissipated. Even now, that terrifying toxin was still affecting Dragonite. Fortunately, Lance could tell that the poison's effects were beginning to weaken. Otherwise, he didn't even want to imagine what might have happened.
"What a terrifying enemy... It seems I need to have Red, who sneaked inside, retreat first. That masked man..."
Seeing his Dragonite suffering from severe poisoning, Lance's expression turned incredibly grim. He realized that his plan had far too many obstacles. Just this masked man popping out of nowhere was already a massive wild card. Thinking this, Lance began contemplating whether he should change his plans.
