Chapter 20: The Duel

After receiving King's permission, Obito and Gara looked at each other.

In the next instant, both of them disappeared in flashes of light and teleported to a vast heavenly battlefield known as the Death Room.

It was no ordinary arena.

The ground seemed to be made of shining celestial stone, while enormous ancient walls surrounded the battlefield. Above the arena floated countless stars, making it look as if the battle would take place in the middle of the universe itself.

King and Queen stood on a royal platform high above the battlefield, watching everything from above.

Meanwhile, Obito and Gara faced each other at the center of the arena.

King raised his hand.

"The duel begins!"

The moment his voice echoed through the Death Room, the battle started.

Gara smiled calmly.

"Can you control your powers this time?"

"Or are you going to cause another disaster like before?"

Obito looked at him coldly.

"Enough talking."

"Come at me."

Without another word, Obito rushed forward.

He drew his crimson sword and covered its blade with crackling lightning.

"Thunder Slash!"

BOOM!

A powerful explosion shook the entire battlefield.

Smoke spread in every direction.

Obito rested his sword on his shoulder and smirked.

"What happened, Uncle?"

"Did you lose after a single attack?"

Suddenly, loud laughter echoed from within the smoke.

"Hahahahaha!"

Obito's eyes narrowed.

The smoke slowly vanished as Gara drew his sword.

To Obito's surprise, there was only a small cut across Gara's chest.

Gara laughed.

"Is that all?"

Then his expression became serious.

"Have you forgotten everything?"

"Or have you forgotten how to use a sword?"

WHOOSH!

Gara vanished.

Before Obito could react, Gara appeared directly in front of him.

He grabbed Obito's sword arm and delivered a devastating punch to his face.

BAM!

Obito was sent flying across the battlefield.

Blood dripped from his mouth.

Above them, both King and Queen felt pain in their hearts at the sight.

As Obito looked at the blood on his hand, something inside him awakened.

Painful memories flooded his mind.

Blood.

Screams.

Death.

Loneliness.

His traumatic past replayed before his eyes.

His breathing became heavier.

Then suddenly—

BOOOOM!

Using his free hand, Obito unleashed a terrifying blast of power.

The force struck Gara directly.

Gara was thrown across the battlefield and crashed into the farthest wall.

The wall shattered instantly.

Blood appeared at the corner of Gara's mouth.

Yet he continued smiling.

"Oh..."

"Now you're getting serious."

"This is where the fun begins."

The moment Gara said those words, Obito's sword changed.

Its crimson color became darker and darker.

Flames erupted from the blade.

The surrounding air trembled from the heat.

Both warriors charged at each other.

But Obito was no longer fighting consciously.

He was lost within his memories.

He did not even realize what he was doing.

Gara, on the other hand, fought with excitement.

Suddenly, Obito swung his sword.

"Flame Disaster!"

A gigantic wave of fire exploded toward Gara.

SLASH!

The attack cut through Gara's right arm.

His arm fell onto the battlefield.

Silence filled the Death Room.

Queen's eyes widened.

"King!"

"Stop this duel!"

But before anyone could interfere, Gara looked at his severed arm.

Then he began laughing.

"Hahahahaha!"

The sound of his laughter pulled Obito back to reality.

His eyes widened in shock.

He stared at the severed arm lying on the ground.

Fear appeared on his face.

"What... have I done?"

Gara continued laughing.

"You did it again."

"You got lost in your memories during battle."

A golden light suddenly surrounded Gara's shoulder.

Within seconds, a brand-new arm regenerated completely.

It was as if the injury had never happened.

Obito took a deep breath.

The flames disappeared.

His sword slowly returned to its normal crimson color.

Then he looked at Gara and smiled slightly.

"Alright, Uncle."

"Now let's begin for real."

Author's Note

Obito's sword was no ordinary weapon.

The darker its crimson color became, the more destructive its power grew.

And if one day that crimson color were to become completely black—

A blackness resembling the darkness of the universe itself, filled with the light of distant stars—

Then the sword would reach a level beyond imagination.

In that form, if Obito struck a living being, the wound would become permanent.

No regeneration.

No healing.

No magic.

No divine power.

Nothing would be able to restore what had been cut away.

Because the blade would no longer wound the body alone.

It would wound existence itself.

And wounds inflicted upon existence can never truly heal.
