Chapter 8 - A Comfy Experience

When Alioth awakened from his deep slumber, he wondered why he had made such a nice blanket and futon for Two. After all, you could literally die anytime here, even Alioth could figure this out after having the encounter with the spiders and the panther.

Everything was blurry to him, so he used his hands to rub his eyes, or at least he tried, one of his hands moved, and the other clearly did not.

'Oh right, I fucking lost my arm'

"Want a hand for that?" Alioth heard

"Huh? For what? Wait, you're not insulting me are you?"

"No, it's just that uhhh, you seem to have lost an arm."

"Well, it does look like it, NO SHIT" Alioth shouted.

Wondering how stupid someone could get, he wondered how his life would go now without an arm to work with, after all, he spent the past seventeen years with two arms. So basically, Alioth was just a free kill at this point.

"A hand for what?" He said cautiously. Because the last time he had spoken to this girl was when he had been thrown into the spider's nest to lose an arm.

"Y'know" Two said deviously.

Chills were sent down his spine, what did she mean by "y'know?."

When Alioth finally opened his eyes, he saw Two just standing over him, staring at him questioning him.

"What? You look a bit weird, "he said.

"So, why did you make that futon? Y'know I could have just slept on the floor right?"

"Well, you did kinda like, do all the work, so like uhhh, I would feel guilty if I didn't, even though you did separate my arm from my body, just be happy it was my left arm, or else you would have gotten different treatment."

Two looked weirded out before, but after the explanation, she softened up a bit and asked-

"What? You got a crush on me or something?" She asked playfully.

"Fuck you"

In the inside, when Alioth made the futon, he had just done it out of good will, but now he didn't know what he should do next time.

'Do I just leave her on the floor?'

'Realistically, who doesn't accept a free futon, or anything free in general? Seriously, or maybe that's just how I view things, it's been quite a long time since I've talked to a normal person after all.'

Aside from the other people, Alioth had a very unique mark, but all the people in the group that Two was in had the same mark as each other, except Two, her mark seemed eerily similar to Alioth's. The same pattern, everything.

"Hey, I've got a question, why do we have these marks, and why is your's the same as mine?"

"Wait, do you seriously don't know? Once you have a mark, you either die in this place or become really strong. Also, shouldn't you know why we have the mark? Everyone learned about it in school, probably around tenth grade. Otherwise their parents would tell them" Two said, questioning if Alioth was being serious.

'Huh, she didn't answer my other question, and changed the topic.'

"No, I don't have parents, or money to go to school"

"Well, would you look at the pink starry sky?" Two said looking and sounding guiltily.

The stars were nowhere to be seen as well.

"Whatever, what do we do now? Separate? If you suggest that, no actually it would probably be safer for me to separate, because I lost less limbs without you."

"Ahem" Alioth only heard.

"Well, we're going to separate," Alioth said confidently.

Soon after, Alioth ran off, out of the cave, and raised an arm holding the stick. And jumped off the cave in the mountains.

When he reached the floor, sure enough, what Two had said was true, the tree didn't move at all, but everything else around it seemed different. Thinking if he should just stay in the tree, he concluded that he should just explore his surroundings if he wanted to find a way back.

'Speaking of finding a way back, can I ask the skyline how to do that?'

[Conditions: Clear the Trial Of Endurance by proving your worthiness]

Huh, sketchy Alioth thought, how would he clear the trial of endurance let alone prove his worth? Whatever that meant.

But it also seemed that he had gotten a few rewards from slaying the two beasts he had slaughtered, so he checked what they were.

[You have two unread messages]

What is this? Some kinda phone? Alioth scoffed at the mechanism. In fact, the skyline did work like a phone, but Alioth was too unsocial to make use of it.

[You have defeated Mimic Spider]

[You have been awarded four permanent luck]

[You have defeated, Titanic Spider]

[You have been awarded two permanent luck]

[The following is affected by your ability: Jackpot]

'Permanent luck? That sounds, extremely overpowered'

Overjoyed, Alioth let out a deep smile, and walked toward the large tree to sit down for the time being.

Wondering what his ability really does he checked, and was actually very surprised by how simple it was.

[Jackpot: This ability allows the user to gain permanent luck based on the performance on how well the user fights.]

Thinking about what the luck could affect, Alioth licked his lips and rolled an authority, wondering if his luck would affect it.

Since Alioth had not rolled an authority in over a week, he had saved around seven rolls to use. Excitedly he smiled and looked toward the holographic screen presented by the skyline and rolled an authority.

As always Alioth rolled common, but this time one of them had a mutation stuck on them.

Alioth was pretty sure that his [Gamer] mutation was one of the best, but he still checked what he had, after all it can't be as bad as losing an arm.

'Because of a certain someone!'

[Common]

[Mutation: Communicator]

[Tier: Basic]

[Forged by the essence of earthly beings, here lies the core of peak humanity]

[Mutation allows the user to communicate with the otherworldly beings for help]

'Well, it seems cool at first sight, but how exactly will that help me?'

Questioning the credibility of the mutation, he just decided to give it a try, Alioth looked down at his feet, then at the holographic screen.

And awkwardly said outloud,

"Uh, testing, uhm are there any people here?"

*He means otherworldly beings to test

Soon after in his mind, it felt like his brain was split into two, just with no pain.

Then he heard a womanly voice.

"Poor soul, is seems as your arm has shattered, would you like-

["Common: Communicator" has broken due to extreme power and unstability]

'Huh? What just happened?'

Suddenly, the voice in his mind was ripped out of his consciousness as though it had never existed. It felt like a second brain for a second, but shortly after it just disappeared.

"So, are you going crazy or something? I'm right in front of you."

Alioth looked up and saw Two, wondering why she was at the tree, or it was rather explainable as the tree doesn't move during the night.

"I was ummm sleeping"

"Yeah, you were wide awake. Don't fool me"
