After wandering through the hallways for what felt like forever, I finally found my way back to my chamber with the help of a maid.
I had never seen her before. But then again, this palace was far too large to recognize every face within it.
She said nothing as she led me. Only bowed slightly before leaving me at my door.
I stepped inside slowly..The silence in the room felt… heavier than usual.
I shut the door behind me and leaned against it for a moment, letting out a quiet breath.
I needed to know. Which of them had died.
But I could not bring myself to go and find out.
I did not have the courage.
This past week alone had shown me more blood than I had seen in my entire life..More loss than I knew how to carry.
And the worst part was… I barely even knew them.
Yet it still hurts.
First Edward. Then Charlotte. And now… two more maidens. Gone. Just like that.
My fingers tightened slightly against the fabric of my gown.
It was becoming too much.
