Chapter 2 - RAVANA'S RISE

Chapter 2:

The child who had once shaken the earth with his cries was no longer a child.

Dashagriva grew into a young Rakshasa of unmatched intelligence and ambition. Under the guidance of his father, the sage Vishrava, he mastered the Vedas, sacred scriptures, warfare, politics, astronomy, and the secrets of divine weapons. His knowledge astonished even the wisest scholars.

Yet knowledge alone could not satisfy him.

Deep within his heart burned an unquenchable desire—to become the most powerful being in the three worlds.

As the years passed, Dashagriva watched the Devas rule the heavens and witnessed how the Rakshasas had lost their former glory. The words of his grandfather Sumali echoed in his mind.

"Power belongs to those who dare to seize it."

Determined to fulfill his destiny, Dashagriva journeyed to a remote mountain and began a terrible penance. Standing motionless for years, he meditated upon the Creator, Lord Brahma.

Seasons changed.

Rivers flowed.

Forests grew and withered.

Still he remained unmoved.

Thousands of years passed. To prove his devotion, Dashagriva made unimaginable sacrifices. His determination shook the heavens themselves. The gods grew anxious, fearing what such devotion might achieve.

At last, Lord Brahma appeared before him in a radiant blaze of divine light.

"Dashagriva," Brahma said, "your penance has pleased me. Ask for a boon."

The Rakshasa prince bowed.

"O Lord, grant me protection from the Devas, Yakshas, Gandharvas, Nagas, and all powerful celestial beings. Let no one among them defeat me."

Brahma granted the boon.

In his pride, Dashagriva dismissed humans and forest-dwellers as insignificant and did not seek protection from them. It was a decision that would one day shape his fate.

Empowered by Brahma's blessing, Dashagriva's strength multiplied beyond imagination. His roar echoed across the worlds.

Soon after, another event changed his destiny forever.

While traveling through the heavens, he encountered his half-brother, Kubera, the lord of wealth and ruler of the magnificent golden city of Lanka.

Kubera possessed the celestial flying chariot, the Pushpaka Vimana, and commanded immense riches.

Ravana's ambition flared.

Why should Lanka belong to another?

Why should he bow before anyone?

Leading a vast Rakshasa army, Dashagriva marched against Kubera. The battle was fierce, but Ravana's newly gained powers proved unstoppable.

Kubera was defeated.

Lanka fell into Ravana's hands.

The golden city became the capital of his growing empire.

From its glittering palaces, Ravana expanded his influence across the earth, oceans, and heavens. Kings trembled at his name. Warriors feared his armies. Even many celestial beings avoided provoking him.

Yet with every victory, his pride grew stronger.

The wise counsel of sages meant little to him.

The warnings of destiny went unheard.

The world saw only a mighty conqueror ascending toward greatness.

But hidden behind the glory was a dangerous flaw—arrogance.

And arrogance, when left unchecked, becomes the seed of destruction.

The rise of Ravana had begun.

His fall remained far beyond the horizon.
