Chapter 36 - Chapter 35: The Interview, Part 1

My name is Robert Kirby. Today in our studio we have a very unusual group of guests. Two of them you don't know, but one of them is rising basketball star Tony Richards.

As many fans of this sport already know, unexpectedly for everyone, Tony announced his retirement. He agreed to come to our interview to apologize to his fans and explain why he made this decision. Also during the interview, you'll find out who these nice young man and woman beside him are.

"First question, Tony. As a basketball fan myself, I can definitely say you have talent and you enjoy playing. What made you give up the sport?"

"I really do love basketball, and it's something I'm genuinely good at. But during my career, I've repeatedly injured my knees, and doctors told me that if I continue playing at the same level, I could end up in a wheelchair one day," Tony said with pain in his voice.

"I thought long and hard and decided I don't want to become a burden to my mother and fiancée. But I was still hesitating because I didn't know where to go, until my school friend knocked on my door and asked me to star in his film. At some point during the filming, I realized I enjoyed it. Not as much as basketball, but I still decided to give it a try."

"You have a fiancée. I think not only I but also our viewers are curious about what kind of girl managed to capture your heart."

"You'll be able to see her in a post-credits scene," he said, chuckling.

"Alright, I see you're not going to talk about your girl, so let's leave that topic," said the host. He was an experienced man and understood that this was a very unusual way to generate interest in their film. He was sure that quite a few of this guy's fans would rush to see the film to find out who managed to win his heart.

"Now I regret missing that scene," Robert said sadly.

"You'll have a reason to go see our film again," Tony said with a laugh.

"As someone who has seen your film, I can say I liked it. And even if we've lost an outstanding basketball player, we have a chance to gain an incredible actor. But I didn't expect to see you in such a role."

"I had doubts too, but Ray is my best friend and the person who helped me get my act together after my sister's death. So I couldn't refuse him."

"I love basketball very much. This sport helped me make something of myself and provide for my mother, who always worked hard to give my sister and me a chance. But we were stupid sheep and didn't appreciate her efforts. I hope one day she can forgive me."

As Tony said these words, tears rolled down his cheeks. Wiping them away, he quickly composed himself and continued:

"This film helped me understand what I could become if I didn't stop in time. It strengthened my resolve. Working on this film, everyone gave it their all. The premiere is in three days. I hope people will find a way to appreciate the results of our labor."
