Lily and Rosie had lived in fear of losing Violet for years, and the fact that the operation was successful lifted a weight from their shoulders. All these years they had lived in tension and constant fear. It seemed their batteries had run out. Seeing their condition, Ray and Amy decided to take them home with them. This meant Ray had to sleep on the couch.
On the way home, Lily fell asleep, so waking up in her future mother-in-law's arms, the girl was embarrassed and jumped out of bed.
This made Amy laugh merrily and say playfully:
"Don't worry, dear, you're very nice, but I can't steal my son's girl. So I kept my hands to myself."
Communicating with Amy, Lily had long understood where her beloved inherited his peculiar sense of humor.
During breakfast, when everyone gathered in the kitchen, Rosie said guiltily:
"Sorry we fell apart so badly."
"It's okay, we understand," Amy said, smiling.
Finishing eating, Ray began getting ready for work, but Amy's words stopped him:
"I called your bosses and asked for a couple of days off. We all think you need to rest. Take your girl on a date. If you spend so little time with her, she might run away. I don't think you'll get another chance at such a beauty."
"Your mother's right, you need rest. I'm very glad everything went so well. I understand you both worked hard. But where did you get such money?" Rosie asked.
"Micky, the man we help clean his gym, helped us with the money," Ray said.
"We need to thank him," Rosie said resolutely.
"We've already thought about that. I think we should have a party when Violet is discharged," Lily said.
"According to the doctor, the operation went well, but full recovery could take over six months. I've hired a team of good doctors to handle her rehabilitation," Ray said.
"But the competition results will be announced in less than a month," Lily said anxiously.
"It's okay, you can go. We'll take care of the little one," Amy said.
"But what about the child? I'm not going until I'm sure I'm pregnant," Lily said resolutely, looking Ray in the eyes.
Her determined gaze and the fact that she said this so directly in front of her grandmother and his mother told Ray he could no longer avoid this conversation. Sighing, he looked around at everyone and addressed the elders:
"I'll ask you one last time. Are you really not against this? We all know how this could end. I don't want her left alone with a child."
"I would only be glad. And no matter what happens, I'll be a support for this girl. I'm even glad she's so determined. And whatever happens in the future, I give my word that she will never be alone," Amy said, looking warmly at Lily.
"I can see my girl is very happy with you and truly wants to give you a child," Rosie said, smiling tenderly at the couple.
"Fine, as I promised, we'll take care of this matter at the end of the month," Ray said.
Several days had passed since the operation. Now Ray was lying on the bed while Lily massaged him. These few days he had managed to rest. Realizing that almost all his plans had been realized allowed the guy to relax and realize just how tired he was.
These few days Lily had been by his side, helping him rest. The girl wasn't particularly skilled at massage, but the gentle touch of his beloved's hands lulled his tired mind into a peaceful sleep. Realizing Ray had fallen asleep, Lily looked at him with a tender smile.
The girl didn't know and wasn't sure what she was looking forward to more: the competition results or the moment when she and Ray would take the final step in their relationship.
Another few days passed. Everyone noticed that the few days of rest had done Ray good.
Now Lily and Amy were having a rather frank conversation. The girls were theorizing about what Ray might come up with for their first time. For others, discussing this with their boyfriend's mother might seem inappropriate, but Lily saw in her not only the mother of her beloved but also a friend with whom she had much in common.
She had thought about having a child as soon as possible when she learned of Ray's situation. But it was Amy's story that erased all her doubts.
A phone call interrupted their conversation. Amy stood up laughing, while Lily was very embarrassed. Now she sat at the table with a bright red face.
"Hello, my name is Keith Bartley. Are you Amy Evans?"
Hearing an unfamiliar voice, the woman tensed and answered worriedly:
"Yes."
"Your son was attacked. He was brought to First City Hospital."
