Chapter 3 - chapter 3 THE SELECTION

CHAPTER 3 THE SELECTION

A beautiful cottage came into view, designed and covered with flowers all over.

Inside the cottage, a beautiful woman came into view. She had long snow white hair along with her smooth white skin. It was unnatural from most views, but it gave her the title of the fairest woman in the village.

Reyna was setting up the table for dinner while humming a tune, she carried a graceful aura which seems to calm the storms.

Her ears perked when she heard an incoming footsteps. She turned to see a little boy walking into the house.

"Am back mom!" Roman called out as he rushed into his mother's embrace.

"How's my little tiger doing?

Reyna asked as she kissed his forehead

"Mom, I punched a hole on a tree. I'm getting good at controlling spiritual energy"

Roman beamed jumping to the chair next to his mother.

"That's good my boy, but why do I sense a doubt in your heart " Reyna asked as she dished him some food, then draw out a chair and sat.

The smile on Roman's face slowly turned to a frown. He sipped some water and exhaled

"It's Billy, again. He used his spirit beast on me" He frowned "Why don't I have my spirit beast yet mom? I'm ten years old, should have unlock it by now"

"Well you just have to be patient, it will come out eventually, you'll see" Reyna encouraged him.

"Okay mom. I'll wait. Tomorrow is the selection day, I'll definitely get picked this year " Roman said as he began eating.

Reyna watched him for a while with a smile on her face before facing her food.

THE NEXT DAY

At the outskirts of the village, three men could be seen riding on horse back. They were clad in leather armor with the kingdom insignia, proudly on their chest.

Of course they were Knights from the Kingdom of Avalon.

One of the men happily whistled a tune, enjoying the wind in his handsome face. He had a slim but muscular build and he carried an aura of pride suited for his noble ranking.

"It's nice to be outside the Kingdom ones in a while don't you think?" Sir Wilfred asked with a cheery smile "I was starting to get bored in my office"

"Don't get too comfortable Wilfred, focus on the task ahead"

The second Knight snapped with a frown.

He had a more bulky build and a deep scar running along his face. Sir Barron was more of an ardent soldier than most, a higher ranking knight. Being in charge of this year selection was a pain he hated, but he had to go with it.

"Let just get this over with, this village is not worth the effort anyway" He scoffed.

"Relax Barron, enjoy the outdoors for a while" Wilfred chuckled "We might have some promising kids this year. Don't judge a book by it's cover you know" He faced the third knight who has been silent throughout the journey. "What do you think Slade?"

Sir Slade was more of a silent knight. He was tall but slimmer than the others and always covering his face with a hood. He was more of the assassin nature than a knight.

Slade glanced towards Wilfred, shrugged then continued forward.

"Silent as usual" Wilfred exhaled.

Behind them, a single horseman rode with them, with a carriage attached to the horse.

The village came into view, bustling with activities as usual.

"This should be fun" Wilfred smiled.

********

The selection day happens once a year. Knights from the Kingdom of Avalon are dispatched to different villages and towns to seek out talented kids with Spirit beasts, who are then trained to be future knights who will serve the King's cause.

The Kingdom of Avalon was one of the most powerful and prosperous kingdom in the continent, so of course every town outside the Kingdom prepare their best offsprings for the Selection, same goes for Hilltown. But not every kids are able to awaken their beast within.

Roman could be seen running with all his might, channeling every energy he had within him, he was in distress.

"Excuse me... sorry.... incoming..... pardon me..... I'm sorry...."

He would jump, dodge avoid people and others who were in his path as he made his way towards the guild hall located in the middle of the town.

"I'm so late. Mom didn't bother waking me up this morning. Not fair mom"

He complained

"I can't missed the Selection, no, I have to make it"

He was determined.
