Chapter 14 - Chapter 14. The First Attempt

Morning sunlight reflected brightly against the glass exterior of Kane Luxe Tower.

Employees moved steadily through the revolving doors, some carrying coffee, others checking their phones as they hurried toward another busy workday.

The building itself stood like a symbol of success in the heart of the business district—sleek, modern, and powerful.

At the center of it all was Kane Luxe Group, the luxury empire Alessia Kane had built from nothing.

And standing awkwardly outside the entrance was a man holding an enormous bouquet of white roses.

Ethan Blake adjusted the sleeve of his jacket and glanced at the reflection in the glass doors.

He had dressed carefully this morning.

Tailored navy suit.

Fresh haircut.

Expensive watch.

He wanted to look like the same confident man Alessia had fallen for two years ago.

The flowers rested in his arms like a prop in a romantic movie.

Ethan checked the time.

9:15 a.m.

Perfect.

She would definitely be in the office by now.

He took a deep breath and walked into the building.

Inside, the lobby buzzed with quiet efficiency.

Employees greeted each other politely as they passed through security gates and toward the elevators.

But the sight of a man carrying an oversized bouquet quickly caught attention.

Several people glanced his way.

Some even whispered.

Ethan ignored them and walked straight toward the reception desk.

A young woman in a professional black suit looked up from her computer with a polite smile.

"Good morning. Welcome to Kane Luxe Group."

Ethan returned the smile, trying to appear relaxed.

"Good morning. I'm here to see Alessia."

The receptionist nodded politely.

"Do you have an appointment with Ms. Kane?"

Ethan chuckled lightly, waving the question away.

"No, no appointment. Just call her and tell her Ethan is here."

The receptionist's fingers paused above the keyboard.

"I'm sorry… Ethan?"

"Yes," he said confidently. "Ethan Blake."

He lifted the flowers slightly.

"She'll want to see me."

The receptionist hesitated.

Alessia Kane rarely accepted unexpected visitors.

Still, the man looked confident.

And the flowers suggested a personal matter.

"Please wait a moment," she said politely.

Ethan smiled and leaned casually against the counter.

Around him, employees continued passing through the lobby.

But several of them were now watching curiously.

The receptionist dialed Alessia's assistant.

Upstairs, on the executive floor, Alessia Kane was reviewing a presentation in the conference room.

Her assistant stepped quietly beside her.

"Ms. Kane?"

Alessia looked up briefly.

"Yes?"

"There's someone in the lobby asking to see you."

Alessia closed the tablet in front of her.

"Who?"

The assistant hesitated slightly.

"…Ethan Blake."

For a moment, the room felt colder.

Several executives seated at the table exchanged glances.

Alessia's expression didn't change.

But her voice became very calm.

"What does he want?"

"He says you'll want to see him."

Alessia almost smiled.

"Did he bring flowers?"

The assistant blinked in surprise.

"…Yes."

Alessia stood.

"Tell reception I'm not available."

The assistant nodded.

"Should security remove him?"

Alessia considered it for a moment.

"No."

Her voice was calm.

"If he refuses to leave, they will handle it."

Then she turned back to the meeting.

"Let's continue."

Downstairs, Ethan checked his phone while waiting.

He imagined Alessia receiving the message upstairs.

She would probably be surprised.

Maybe even a little touched.

He pictured her walking down to the lobby.

Seeing the flowers.

Softening immediately.

Yes.

This would work perfectly.

The receptionist hung up the phone.

"Mr. Blake."

Ethan straightened confidently.

"Yes?"

"Ms. Kane says she is unavailable to meet with you."

For a moment Ethan didn't understand the sentence.

"…What?"

"She will not be coming down."

Ethan frowned.

"That's impossible."

The receptionist maintained her polite tone.

"That is the message I received."

Ethan laughed awkwardly.

"No, there must be a mistake. Try again."

"I'm sorry, sir."

Ethan's smile disappeared.

"She told you she won't see me?"

"Yes."

Ethan shook his head slowly.

"That's ridiculous."

Several nearby employees had stopped pretending not to listen.

Ethan placed the flowers on the counter.

"Look, just tell her I'm here."

"I already did."

"And?"

"She declined the meeting."

Ethan leaned closer to the desk.

"Listen carefully."

His voice grew slightly sharper.

"You call her again and tell her Ethan is here with flowers and an apology."

The receptionist stiffened slightly.

"Sir—"

"She will see me."

The receptionist pressed a small button under the desk.

A security guard immediately began walking toward them.

"Mr. Blake," she said calmly, "Ms. Kane has asked that you leave."

Ethan laughed bitterly.

"Leave?"

"Yes."

"You expect me to believe she doesn't want to see me?"

"That is her instruction."

Ethan's frustration finally snapped.

"This is ridiculous!"

The sudden raise in his voice echoed through the lobby.

Employees stopped walking.

Everyone was watching now.

"I've known Alessia for two years!"

The security guard arrived beside him.

"Sir, please lower your voice."

"I'm not leaving until she comes down!"

"Sir—"

"Tell her Ethan is here!" he shouted. "Tell her she can't just ignore me!"

The guard stepped forward.

"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the building."

Ethan grabbed the bouquet from the counter again.

"I'm not going anywhere."

"Sir—"

"I just want five minutes!"

The guard reached for his arm.

"Sir, you are creating a disturbance."

Ethan jerked away.

"I'm her boyfriend!"

Several employees exchanged shocked looks.

"Ex-boyfriend," someone whispered quietly.

The security guard remained calm.

"You need to leave now."

Ethan looked around the lobby.

Dozens of people were staring.

Whispering.

Watching him.

The humiliation burned in his chest.

"Fine," he snapped.

"But you tell Alessia this isn't over."

The guard escorted him toward the door.

Ethan tried to pull away once more.

"She can't ignore me forever!"

The guard opened the doors and firmly guided him outside.

The glass doors closed behind him with a quiet click.

Inside the lobby, conversations slowly resumed.

But the whispers continued.

Upstairs, Alessia stood by the window in her office.

She had watched the entire scene through the security monitor.

Her assistant approached carefully.

"Security has removed him."

Alessia nodded.

"Good."

She returned to her desk.

"Let's continue the meeting."

As if nothing had happened.

When someone refuses to accept rejection, are they fighting for love…

Or fighting for their pride?
