Chapter 14 - Pilgrims, Knights and the Ugly Frog

Being a mirror was starting to feel suspiciously like employment.

Lee Eunwoo had never signed any contract, yet every day he found himself working overtime as the "Divine Reflection of Fate" or whatever ridiculous title the priests had invented this week.

Inside the mirror space, Eunwoo floated lazily while scrolling through the system panel.

Eunwoo sighed.

"I still can't believe I copied soup."

Outside the mirror, the temple doors creaked open again.

More visitors.

"Of course."

This place had basically turned into a holy tourist attraction.

Knights, merchants, nobles, wandering scholars, confused peasants — everyone wanted to stare into the mysterious mirror that supposedly blessed those who gazed upon it.

The truth, of course, was much less divine.

Eunwoo simply copied their abilities and sometimes improved them slightly.

But humans loved miracles.

So they kept coming.

The first visitor today was a knight in extremely shiny armor.

He marched into the chamber with all the confidence of someone who had practiced his entrance speech in front of a mirror.

Which was ironic.

"I, Sir Roland of the Western Guard, seek guidance from the Sacred Reflection!"

Eunwoo rubbed his face.

"Why do they always introduce themselves like that?"

The knight stared deeply into the mirror.

Eunwoo stared back.

Ten seconds later—

DING.

Ability Detected: Intermediate Spear Mastery

Copy?

"Sure."

Copied.

The knight gasped dramatically.

"My spear technique… it has evolved!"

He ran out of the temple shouting triumphantly.

Eunwoo leaned back in the mirror realm.

"Congratulations. You leveled up because you looked at glass."

The next visitor was a nervous merchant.

He approached the mirror cautiously.

"Divine artifact… please grant me wisdom in trade."

Eunwoo rolled his eyes.

"Let me guess. You're going to adjust your hair."

The merchant immediately fixed his hairstyle.

DING.

Ability Detected: Advanced Bargaining

Copy?

"Yep."

Copied.

The merchant's eyes widened.

"Incredible! I suddenly understand profit margins!"

He sprinted out of the temple.

Eunwoo sighed.

"I'm basically running an accidental skill-sharing program."

Hours passed like this.

Pilgrims came.

Pilgrims left.

Some cried.

Some prayed.

Some just admired their reflection.

Eunwoo copied a ridiculous amount of abilities.

Sword techniques.

Basic magic.

Cooking skills.

One guy even gave him Advanced Goat Farming Knowledge.

"Fantastic," Eunwoo muttered.

"I'm becoming the most versatile mirror in history."

Then the chamber finally went quiet for a moment.

No pilgrims.

No priests.

Just the faint echo of dripping water in the distance.

Eunwoo glanced around the room out of habit.

His gaze eventually drifted to the shelf beside the mirror.

And landed on the ugly frog statue.

It had been there since the very beginning.

A small stone decoration placed on the wooden shelf near the mirror frame.

The statue was… not impressive.

It looked like a frog that had been carved by someone who had only heard vague rumors about frogs.

Bulging uneven eyes.

A crooked mouth.

And a very questionable body shape.

Eunwoo had unofficially named it weeks ago.

"Sir Frogbert."

He stared at it thoughtfully.

"You're still ugly."

The frog statue said nothing.

Naturally.

Because it was a statue.

Eunwoo had once spent three hours pretending the frog was a conversation partner out of sheer boredom.

"You know, Frogbert, I think I'm becoming too powerful."

The statue continued being extremely unhelpful.

Eunwoo nodded.

"Good talk."

The temple doors opened again.

More visitors.

A group of young novice mages entered nervously.

They whispered to each other while approaching the mirror.

"That's the divine reflection…"

"They say it grants enlightenment…"

Eunwoo watched them silently.

Three of them stared into the mirror at once.

DING. DING. DING.

Abilities Detected

• Minor Wind Affinity

• Basic Mana Control

• Elementary Spell Casting

Copy?

"Yes please."

Copied.

The mages gasped simultaneously.

"I feel the mana flow clearer!"

"The mirror has blessed us!"

They ran out excitedly.

Eunwoo stretched lazily inside the mirror realm.

"Today's productivity is impressive."

The afternoon slowly faded toward evening.

Most visitors had gone home.

Priests quietly cleaned the temple halls.

The chamber grew calm again.

In the corner of the room someone sat quietly.

Constance.

She had arrived earlier and taken her usual place against the wall.

Like always, she didn't interact with the mirror much.

She simply sat there.

Listening.

Occasionally humming softly.

At one point she spoke casually into the empty room.

"I think there were more people today."

Eunwoo glanced at her briefly.

"Correct."

Of course she couldn't hear him.

She tilted her head slightly.

"I also think someone moved the frog statue."

Eunwoo froze.

He slowly looked at the shelf.

Sir Frogbert was indeed slightly tilted.

"…Wait."

Constance smiled faintly.

"The temple echoes differently when objects move."

Eunwoo stared at her.

"Her hearing is ridiculous."

She leaned back against the wall comfortably.

"Temples are strange places."

Eunwoo looked away again.

Back to his system window.

Tomorrow would probably be another chaotic day.

More pilgrims.

More abilities.

More people declaring miracles.

And Sir Frogbert would still be there on the shelf.

Watching everything with his extremely questionable face.

Eunwoo sighed.

"At least someone here understands my suffering."
