Chapter 15 - The Scholar Who Asked the Wrong Question

By the fifteenth day of his accidental godhood, Lee Eunwoo had developed a routine.

Morning: pilgrims.

Afternoon: more pilgrims.

Evening: existential crisis.

Night: staring at the ugly frog statue.

Inside the mirror realm, Eunwoo floated upside down while reviewing his system panel.

Eunwoo pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I have the skill set of a confused medieval uncle."

Outside the mirror, morning sunlight filtered through the temple windows.

Which meant one thing.

The pilgrims were coming.

Right on schedule, the doors opened.

A group of traveling merchants entered first.

They approached the mirror with the same nervous reverence as everyone else.

One man bowed deeply.

"Oh sacred reflection, grant us fortune."

Eunwoo leaned forward.

"Sure."

They all stared at their reflections while adjusting their robes and hair.

DING.

Ability Detected: Advanced Accounting

Copy?

"Oh this is useful."

Copied.

One merchant gasped.

"I suddenly understand tax distribution!"

Another clutched his head.

"The mirror has blessed us with financial wisdom!"

They rushed out, whispering excitedly.

Eunwoo stretched lazily.

"Congratulations. You unlocked spreadsheets."

Next came a pair of knights.

Unlike the dramatic ones from before, these two looked exhausted.

One of them sighed.

"I don't even believe in this nonsense."

The other shrugged.

"Just look at it. Worst case scenario we waste ten seconds."

They both stared into the mirror.

DING.

Abilities Detected

• Heavy Shield Defense

• Tactical Battlefield Awareness

Copy?

"Yes please."

Copied.

The first knight blinked.

"…Why do I suddenly feel like my shield positioning was wrong my entire life?"

The second knight frowned.

"I just realized five flaws in our military formation."

They stared at each other.

Then slowly backed away from the mirror.

"Let's… not talk about this."

They left quickly.

Eunwoo chuckled.

"I'm improving national defense one confused soldier at a time."

The temple quieted briefly after that.

Eunwoo drifted lazily in the mirror realm.

His gaze wandered across the chamber.

The stone altar.

The wooden shelves.

The small frog statue.

Sir Frogbert sat exactly where he always did.

Ugly.

Silent.

Judgmental.

Eunwoo nodded respectfully.

"Good morning, Frogbert."

The statue remained unresponsive.

From the corner of the room came a quiet voice.

"You named the frog?"

Eunwoo froze.

Constance sat on her usual bench.

She had arrived earlier and was calmly eating something from a small basket.

Bread, apparently.

Eunwoo stared at her.

"…Wait."

She tilted her head.

"I heard you talking."

Eunwoo blinked.

"…That's impossible."

Then he realized something.

She couldn't actually hear him.

She must have heard the priests talking about the frog statue earlier.

Still…

The timing was suspicious.

Constance took another bite of bread.

"Sir Frogbert is a funny name."

Eunwoo stared at her for a moment.

Then shook his head.

"Coincidence."

She finished her food and sat quietly again.

Like usual, she didn't interact with the mirror directly.

She just… stayed there.

Listening to the room.

Meanwhile, the next visitor arrived.

This one looked different.

Not a knight.

Not a merchant.

Not a pilgrim.

A scholar.

He wore dark robes filled with pockets containing scrolls, ink bottles, and various measuring tools.

The man walked slowly around the chamber, observing everything.

He eventually stopped in front of the mirror.

Unlike the others, he didn't bow.

He simply adjusted his glasses.

"Fascinating."

Eunwoo leaned forward.

"Oh?"

The scholar stared directly into the mirror.

But instead of admiring his reflection, he examined the glass surface itself.

Like a scientist studying an experiment.

"Interesting magical resonance."

Eunwoo blinked.

The system chimed.

DING.

Ability Detected: Advanced Magical Theory

Copy?

Eunwoo grinned.

"Oh absolutely."

Copied.

Suddenly Eunwoo's mind expanded with an overwhelming amount of magical knowledge.

Mana flow structures.

Enchanting mechanics.

Dimensional theory.

Spell formations.

His brain nearly melted.

"…Okay wow."

Meanwhile, the scholar frowned slightly.

"That's strange."

He leaned closer to the mirror.

"Very strange."

Eunwoo felt a tiny flicker of concern.

The scholar tapped the mirror frame thoughtfully.

"Artifacts usually emit a predictable magical pattern."

He leaned even closer.

"But this one…"

His eyes narrowed.

"…feels like something is observing me."

Eunwoo froze.

The scholar continued speaking quietly.

"Not reacting."

"Not radiating power."

"Simply… watching."

Eunwoo stared back at him.

For the first time since arriving in this world—

Someone had come dangerously close to the truth.

The scholar straightened slowly.

"Curious."

Then he spoke the worst possible sentence.

"What if this mirror is not an artifact…"

He adjusted his glasses.

"…but a living entity?"

Eunwoo nearly choked.

"Nope."

The scholar continued analyzing the mirror.

"If so… it would mean the entity is capable of observation without manifestation."

Eunwoo panicked internally.

"Sir, please stop thinking."

The scholar raised a small notebook and wrote something down.

"Hypothesis: unknown intelligence residing within reflective medium."

Eunwoo looked at Sir Frogbert.

"This guy is dangerous."

The frog statue offered no strategic advice.

Finally the scholar stepped back.

"Remarkable."

He bowed slightly.

Not with religious reverence.

But academic respect.

"I will return with better instruments."

Then he calmly walked out of the temple.

Eunwoo stared after him.

"That man is absolutely coming back to ruin my peaceful mirror life."

From the corner of the room Constance spoke softly.

"He sounded thoughtful."

Eunwoo glanced at her.

Then sighed.

"Yes."

"Yes he did."
