Chapter 13 - The Offering

Lee Eunwoo had discovered three important truths about being a mirror.

First: people in this world were extremely dramatic.

Second: most of them were terrible at magic.

And third—

They were absolutely terrified of him.

Which Eunwoo found very confusing.

Because from his perspective, he was doing absolutely nothing.

Inside the mirror space, Eunwoo floated comfortably while scrolling through the blue system panels.

[Mirror System Status]

Owner: Lee Eunwoo

Title: Watcher Beyond Reflection

Stored Abilities: 147

Recently Acquired:

• Lesser Flame Magic

• Basic Swordsmanship

• Merchant Negotiation Skill

• Chicken Soup Cooking Lv.2

Eunwoo frowned at the last one.

"Why did I copy chicken soup cooking…"

Then he remembered.

A traveling merchant had passed through the temple yesterday and spent ten minutes fixing his hair in the mirror.

Apparently that counts as reflection.

"Great. I'm a cosmic entity with soup recipes."

Meanwhile, outside the mirror…

Things had become increasingly strange.

The temple priests had grown convinced the mirror was divine.

It had started with rumors.

Then "miracles."

Then panic.

Then full religious hysteria.

A knight had once looked into the mirror and immediately improved his sword technique.

Another mage had stared into it and suddenly "felt enlightened."

No one realized Eunwoo had simply copied their abilities and improved them slightly before reflecting them back.

To them, it looked like a divine blessing.

Now the mirror chamber had become a sacred site.

Pilgrims visited daily.

Knights bowed to it.

Some people even cried.

Eunwoo watched it all like a bored office worker.

"Guys… I'm literally just standing here."

Then the priests started arguing.

One afternoon a group of them gathered near the altar.

Eunwoo listened curiously.

"The Mirror must be appeased."

"How do you appease a mirror?"

"With offerings!"

"What kind of offerings?"

"…I don't know."

After three hours of debate they arrived at a brilliant solution.

They would offer a servant.

Eunwoo stared blankly.

"A servant."

"For a mirror."

He waited for someone to point out how ridiculous that was.

No one did.

A few days later the temple doors opened.

Two guards walked into the chamber with a young woman between them.

Eunwoo glanced at her briefly.

White hair.

Pale skin.

Blue eyes.

She looked… expensive.

Like the kind of noble lady who appeared in fantasy novels.

Her expression was calm.

Not terrified.

Just… mildly annoyed.

One priest spoke awkwardly.

"Lady Constance… you will remain here to serve the sacred mirror."

Eunwoo blinked.

Serve me how??

Polish the frame?

Dust the altar?

Offer emotional support?

Constance didn't argue.

She simply nodded.

"Understood."

The priests seemed relieved.

They quickly left.

The guards followed.

Soon the large chamber fell silent.

Constance stood alone beside the altar.

For a moment she didn't move.

Then she walked slowly across the room.

Eunwoo frowned.

Her steps were careful.

Measured.

She lightly touched the wall while walking.

Is she nervous?

She eventually sat on a stone bench near the mirror.

And stayed there.

Quietly.

For an hour.

Eunwoo eventually got bored.

"She's just sitting there…"

Then she spoke.

"Is it true?"

Her voice was soft.

Eunwoo looked around instinctively.

But there was no one else.

"Is the mirror watching?"

Eunwoo sighed.

"Yes. The mirror is watching."

But of course she couldn't hear him.

Constance tilted her head slightly toward the sound of dripping water nearby.

Then she sighed.

"Well… this is awkward."

Eunwoo snorted.

At least she's honest.

She leaned back against the wall.

"I suppose if you're a god… you probably don't talk much."

Another long silence followed.

Eventually she stood up and left the chamber.

Eunwoo forgot about her within minutes.

The next day she came back.

She sat in the same spot.

Said nothing.

Left.

The day after that…

Same thing.

After a week Eunwoo realized something.

"She never actually looks at the mirror."

People who visited the chamber usually stared directly at him.

Constance never did.

Her gaze always drifted slightly to the side.

Like she was listening rather than looking.

Eunwoo watched her more carefully.

She counted her steps while walking.

Touched the altar before sitting down.

Her eyes were beautiful.

But they never focused on anything.

Eunwoo slowly understood.

"…She's blind."

The system confirmed it.

Target Analysis

Name: Constance Valen

Status: Blind

Reflection Link: Unavailable

Reason: Target cannot see the mirror

Eunwoo shrugged.

"Well, that explains why I never copied anything from her."

From then on, Constance became part of the temple's background noise.

She wasn't particularly important.

Just… there.

Sometimes she sat quietly.

Sometimes she hummed to herself.

Sometimes she spoke to the priests.

Occasionally she complained.

"Why does the temple smell like wet candles?"

Eunwoo laughed the first time he heard that.

But mostly…

She was forgettable.

Days passed.

Weeks passed.

Pilgrims still visited the mirror.

Knights still prayed.

Mages still stared at their reflections hoping for enlightenment.

And Constance…

Just kept showing up.

Sitting quietly near the wall.

Sometimes bringing a small basket of food.

Sometimes reading from a book she clearly couldn't see.

Eunwoo didn't pay much attention.

She was just another background character.

A temporary servant assigned to a mirror.

Nothing more.

But slowly…

Almost without Eunwoo noticing…

The chamber started feeling a little quieter on the days she didn't come.

And for reasons he didn't understand…

The mirror occasionally found itself waiting.

For the sound of careful footsteps.

Counting their way across the stone floor.

One.

Two.

Three.

Until they stopped beside the altar.
