Chapter 9 - The Alley

JAY'S POV:

The clue of the warehouse wouldn't leave my mind.

Keifer had been there the night Keira died.

That meant something.

It had to.

So that evening, I went to the warehouse place that's just like the picture.

Alone.

The place looked worse than I expected.

Old buildings. Broken windows. Streetlights barely working.

The wind moved through the empty streets and made those strange noises.

I wrapped my jacket tighter.

"Okay Jay Jay," I whispered. "Just look around."

I walked slowly through the alley near the warehouse.

My footsteps echoed.

Everything felt…wrong.

Too quiet.

Then—

A noise. Behind me.

I turned quickly.

"Show your fucking face! Before I punch it for good!" I snapped trying to show that I am not scared.

No answer.

My heart started beating faster.

Maybe it was nothing.

Maybe just the wind.

I turned back around and started walking again to the warehouse.

Then suddenly—

A hand grabbed my arm painfully.

"HEY—!"

Before I would scream, someone pulled me hard.

My back hit the wall.

A man stood infront of me.

Tall.

Face fully hidden by a mask.

"Looking for something?" he asked coldly.

My heart pounded.

"I—I am just walking."

"People don't just walk here."

His grip tightened in my arm.

Pain shot through my wrist. I winced.

"Let go! Before I fucking punch you!" I shouted.

He laughed.

"You are asking a lot for someone who's digging into things she shouldn't."

My stomach dropped.

"How do you—"

Before I could finish—

Another voice behind us spoke.

"Let her go."

Angry.

Cold.

Dangerous.

The man froze.

Slowly…he turned.

And I already knew who it was.

Keifer. The king of assholes.

He stood a few steps aways, hands in his pocket.

But his eyes looked dark.

Very dark.

And angry?

The man holding me laughed.

"This isn't your problem."

Keifer tilted his head.

"You are right."

Then he took one step forward.

"But now it is."

Something in his voice made the man hesitate.

Finally he shoved me away and ran.

Keifer looked like he want to catch the attacker.

But he looked at me.

My knee almost gave out.

Keifer walked over.

"You are an idiot," he said.

I glared at him.

"I didn't ask for your help!"

He laughed. And there was anger mixed with it?

"You were about two seconds away from getting seriously hurt!"

"I had it under control!"

"Sure."

I crossed my arms, huffing.

"Why are you even here?"

He looked at me for a second.

Then sighed.

"I was following you."

My eyes widened.

"You were WHAT?!"

He smirked slightly.

"Relax. I wasn't stalking you like you do."

"Then why?!"

"Because," he said simply, "you are terrible at staying alive."

I opened my mouth.

Closed it.

Opened it again.

"You are unbelievable."

He laughed.

Then suddenly he stepped closer.

Very close.

My heart jumped again. I hate this! Gago!

"You shouldn't come to places like this alone," he said quietly.

Is he…worried for me?

I looked away.

"I didn't need your help."

He leaned down slightly.

"But you got it anyway." 😼

For a moment neither of us moved.

The air felt…strange..heavy? Sparks? What the fuck is this?

Then I stepped back quietly.

"I still think you killed my sister."

His expression didn't change.

"Of course you do."

"Don't think this changes anything."

He smiled teasingly.

"Oh I know."

Then he started walking away.

Before leaving the alley, he looked back.

"Next time," he said with a smirk, "try not to almost die while spying on me."

And then he disappeared into the night.

I stood there.

Staring.

Gago.

But…my heart was racing.

Mind confused.

Beacuse if Keifer really killed my sister…

Then why did he just save me?
