Chapter 12 - A New Lead

JAY'S POV:

I stormed out of the café, my bag swinging heavily by my side.

Why did Keifer always have to be so…irritating?

Gago.

The way he caught me when I fell earlier. His hands too close, his chest too near to mine. My heart still beats fast when I thought about it.

Ugh. I hated feeling like this.

I stomped down the street, trying to ignore the butterflies. Trying to tell myself he was still the man who might have killed my sister.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I yanked it out.

"Jay! You need to see this!"

It was Raefel, calling through the Section E group chat.

I growled. "What is it now?" I muttered, walking down faster.

"Jay, we got it. Keira's phone. Aunt Gemma gave it saying she got it from the polic station. We opened it, she left something important."

My stomach dropped.

"What…" I wishpered, slowing my pace.

I ducked into a small side street to talk.

"Raefel…you mean you actually found it?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly.

"Yes Jay…" he said softly. "Ci-N helped unlock it. We…we found something. There's a name."

"A name?" My heart skipped.

"Yes," Raefel said carefully. "Lucas. Keira was planning to meet him the night she…you know…" His voice faltered.

I swallowed hard.

Lucas. One of Keira's friends. He'd seemed so normal before. But now…maybe he was hiding something.

I clenched my fists.

"Where is he?" I asked sharply.

"We don't know yet," Raefel said gently. "But the messages pointed to that night…warehouse location. Just like your clue from the investigation board."

I gritted my teeth.

Lucas. That night.

And all this time…I'd been staring at Keifer. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe.

But no. I couldn't let go of that suspicion yet.

Raefel's voice softened. "We'll help you Jay. Don't worry, you are not alone."

I looked at my hands, my chest warm.

Section E…My friends are always helping me, always caring.

"Thanks, Raefel," I said quietly.

"Anytime," he replied.

I hung up and stared at the pavement.

Lucas. He was my main suspect now.

But my heart still couldn't shake the thought of Keifer.

The man I hated…and maybe hated a little too much.

Asshole.

Either way…I wasn't letting anyone stop me from finding the truth.

Not Lucas. Not Keifer. Not anyone.

Keira…My sister deserved that much🖤

And I would find the killer.

No matter what.
