Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Reader’s Window

The shadow beneath the molten ocean rose slowly.

Not violently like before.

Not probing.

Not testing.

It observed.

The massive structure beneath the cradle unfolded layer by layer like a mechanical flower opening inside a star. Plates of molten iron shifted aside, revealing deeper chambers glowing with ancient energy older than the planet itself.

Inside the submarine, silence thickened.

Dave stared at the viewport.

"…that thing wasn't fully awake before."

Future Dave shook his head.

"No."

"The cradle was."

"The Entity was."

"But that…"

He pointed downward.

"…is something deeper."

The System flickered violently across Dave's vision.

Then something new appeared.

Not red.

Not warning.

Gold.

A sound like pages turning echoed through his mind.

The interface expanded.

Symbols rearranged themselves.

Then a message appeared.

SYSTEM UPDATE DETECTED

New Function Acquired

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint – Fragmentary Access

Dave blinked.

"…what?"

Jack leaned over.

"What now? Did you unlock cosmic Netflix?"

The System continued.

Skill Description

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (Fragment)

Allows the user to observe narrative flow, probability paths, and hidden intentions of entities within a limited radius.

Restrictions:

• Incomplete perspective

• High mental strain

• Entities above cosmic rank may resist observation

Ava's eyes widened slightly.

"That's… impossible."

David frowned.

"Not impossible."

He looked at Dave.

"Just dangerous."

Dave rubbed his temple.

"So… basically I can see… the story?"

Future Dave nodded slowly.

"Yes."

"And if the Entity allowed the System to give you this…"

He paused.

"…then it wants you to read it."

Simon whispered inside Dave's mind.

"Try it."

Dave hesitated.

Then he focused.

The golden interface activated.

The world changed.

Not visually.

Conceptually.

Lines of probability unfolded around the cradle like glowing threads stretching through time.

The molten currents became flow charts.

The shadow beneath them revealed structural layers.

Even the Entity—

For a moment Dave glimpsed something behind the eye.

Not just intelligence.

Not just consciousness.

But purpose.

Then text appeared beside it.

Entity Status: Active Observer

Narrative Role: Evaluator

Current Intent Probability:

• 63% – Continue trials

• 22% – Observe chain evolution

• 11% – Direct intervention

• 4% – Termination scenario

Dave inhaled sharply.

"Oh."

Jack noticed his expression.

"I don't like that 'oh'."

Dave pointed at the viewport.

"It's not attacking."

Ava tilted her head.

"It never was."

"No," Dave said.

"It's judging."

David crossed his arms.

"Judging what?"

Dave slowly lowered his hands.

"The story."

The room went quiet.

Simon whispered.

"What do you see below?"

Dave activated the skill again.

The golden threads deepened.

Now the rising shadow became visible in layers.

Each section labeled by the System.

Cradle Substructure

Layer 1 – Energy Conduits

Layer 2 – Structural Shell

Layer 3 – Observer Chamber

Layer 4 – ???

Dave froze.

Layer 4 pulsed.

Then the System added a note.

Narrative Flag Detected

Possible Event: "Birth of the True Core"

Probability Trigger: Observer Interaction

Dave swallowed.

"That's not good."

Jack sighed.

"When you say 'not good'…"

Dave looked up slowly.

"…it means the thing under the cradle isn't the Entity."

Everyone stared at him.

Ava spoke quietly.

"Then what is it?"

Dave looked back through the golden viewpoint.

At the enormous structure rising beneath the molten ocean.

At the final layer that had no description.

The System finally filled in the blank.

Layer 4 Identified

Designation: The Author

Status: Dormant

Probability of Awakening: Increasing

Dave exhaled slowly.

"Oh that's really bad."

Jack groaned.

"Of course there's a bigger boss."

Future Dave watched the rising structure carefully.

"If that awakens…"

"…the trials end."

Simon whispered.

"Then what begins?"

Dave stared at the golden threads of probability twisting across reality.

The answer appeared in the interface.

Projected Narrative Outcome

Scenario Title:

"When the Author Wakes"

Survival Probability of Current Chain:

8%

Dave leaned back in his chair.

"…yeah."

"we need a better plan."

Outside the submarine—

the rising structure beneath the Iron Ocean moved faster.

The eye above widened.

Even the Entity seemed to shift its attention.

Because something far deeper than the cradle had begun to stir.

And the Reader's Viewpoint had just revealed the next chapter.
