"What is it?" Rosalind asked, confused, as she held out her hand.
Crystal took her hand, her own little one patting it. "Mommy's hand is so pretty, but it's empty. The ring Daddy gave you is so beautiful, why don't you wear it?"
Before Rosalind could even react, her dear daughter had slipped the ring onto her finger.
At that same moment, she saw Opal walking over with a box. "Rosalind, your New Year's gi—"
He trailed off, having seen what just happened, and was suddenly at a loss for words.
Crystal, however, turned back to Opal and flashed him a brilliant smile, her face a picture of 'mission accomplished.'
Rosalind sucked in a breath. She stared at the new ring on her finger and tugged at it, but it wouldn't budge. She sighed in exasperation. "Crystal, why do you mess with things on the table?"
"It's my daddy's. How is that messing with it?"
Resigned, Rosalind turned to Opal. "What were you saying?"
