Chapter 63 - When Light Walks

The moving light didn't stop.

It hovered just above the ground, drifting slowly from the vineyard toward the town.

Not fast.

Not aggressive.

Intentional.

Daniel followed it without thinking.

"Wait—Daniel!" Maria called, hurrying after him.

The streets of Seravalle were quiet, touched by the soft blue of early night. A few people noticed the glow and paused, confused—but no one felt fear.

Because the light didn't feel dangerous.

It felt… warm.

Alive.

The small orb drifted past the edge of the town square, then slowed.

Hovered.

As if deciding.

Daniel stopped a few steps away, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Elena… is that you?"

The light flickered.

Once.

Then again.

A response.

Maria stepped beside him, eyes wide.

"It understands you…"

The orb moved closer.

Daniel's heart pounded.

Not from fear—

But from something deeper.

Hope.

It hovered just inches from him now.

Close enough to touch.

But he didn't.

He remembered.

The cost.

"I'm here," he said softly. "I'm not going anywhere."

The light pulsed brighter.

And then—

It changed.

The glow stretched slightly, elongating—not fully forming a figure like before, but enough to suggest shape.

A presence trying to become something more.

Daniel's breath caught.

For a second—

Just a second—

He felt it.

Not just warmth.

Her.

"Elena…" he whispered.

The light flickered faster now, unstable.

Maria noticed it immediately.

"Daniel… it's reacting too much."

The ground gave the faintest tremor.

Daniel stepped back instantly.

"No," he said gently. "It's okay. You don't have to push."

The light stilled.

The flickering slowed.

The tremor faded.

Silence returned.

For a moment—

Everything balanced again.

Then—

The orb drifted sideways.

Past Daniel.

Toward the town.

Maria frowned.

"Where is it going?"

They followed.

The light moved with purpose now, weaving through quiet streets until it reached a small house at the edge of town.

Daniel recognized it.

An old building.

Long abandoned.

The orb paused at the door.

Hovered.

Then slipped through the crack beneath it.

Daniel and Maria exchanged a look.

"That's… new," Maria said.

Daniel didn't hesitate.

He pushed the door open.

Inside—

Darkness.

Dust.

Silence.

Then—

Light.

The orb hovered in the center of the room.

But it wasn't alone anymore.

Faint threads of light stretched from it—

Touching the walls.

The floor.

The air itself.

Like it was searching.

Or remembering.

Daniel stepped closer carefully.

"What is this place…?" he whispered.

Maria looked around, her eyes scanning the worn interior.

Then she froze.

"Daniel…"

"What?"

She pointed to the wall.

Faded.

Almost erased by time—

Were the same symbols.

The same ones from the tunnels.

Daniel's chest tightened.

"This place… is connected."

The orb pulsed brighter.

As if confirming it.

Maria stepped back slowly.

"She's not just reaching out," she said quietly.

"She's tracing something."

Daniel looked at the glowing threads spreading across the room.

"A network…" he murmured.

A realization settled between them.

The tunnels.

The symbols.

The hidden past.

It had never been just one place.

It was everywhere.

Hidden beneath the town.

And now—

It was waking up.

The orb pulsed again.

Stronger.

And this time—

The ground beneath them responded.

Not violently.

But unmistakably.
