Chapter 5: A New Opportunity
After the assembly, Amara remained in the hall as the other students returned to their classrooms.
She looked at the principal curiously.
"Ma, you said you wanted to tell me something."
The principal smiled.
"Yes, Amara. First, congratulations on coming first in the Mathematics Competition. You have made your teachers and classmates proud."
"Thank you, ma," Amara replied.
The principal picked up a letter from her desk.
"Because of your excellent performance, your name has been recommended for an inter-school Mathematics Challenge."
Amara's eyes widened.
"Another competition?"
"Yes," the principal replied. "But this one will involve students from different schools."
Amara became quiet.
She was happy, but she also felt a little nervous.
Can I really do this again? she wondered.
Author's thought:I could see that Amara was excited and afraid at the same time. Sometimes, a new opportunity can feel scary because we don't know what to expect.
"Amara," the principal continued, "you don't have to be perfect. All you need to do is prepare, believe in yourself, and give it your best."
Amara smiled.
"I will try my best, ma."
When she returned to her classroom, her teacher was waiting for her.
"So, Amara, what did the principal want?"
Amara smiled brightly.
"She told me that I have been chosen for another Mathematics Challenge!"
Her classmates cheered.
"Wow! Congratulations!"
"You can do it, Amara!"
Amara laughed.
That afternoon, she went home and told her mother the news.
Her mother hugged her proudly.
"I am very happy for you," she said. "Remember, Amara, every challenge is a chance to learn something new."
Amara nodded.
That evening, she opened her Mathematics book and began to practise.
This time, she knew the challenge would be harder.
But she also knew something else.
She was no longer the girl who was afraid of difficult questions.
She had learned to keep going.
Author's thought:Amara had won the competition, but her journey was not over. Sometimes, one success opens the door to an even bigger challenge. And I had a feeling that Amara's next challenge would test more than just her Mathematics.
Amara closed her book and smiled.
"I am ready for whatever comes next."
