"I could say the same thing about you. What's with those sleepy eyes?" I asked, trying to maintain my composure. I desperately hoped I wouldn't have to explain that he was the very reason I couldn't sleep at night.
"Hm. Let's just say I've been working late lately."
Listening to his reply, I sensed he was telling the truth. The workload at the company had been brutal for him recently. He was actually being sincere. I think.
"You should be getting some rest instead of coming here," I told him, a note of genuine worry creeping into my voice.
"Same goes for you." He grinned, his teeth white against the dim light. "Yet here you are too."
"Well, my case is different. I needed a distraction. I'm not exactly tired."
"Different. I see. Hey, your friend seems to be having a successful night." Suddenly, Xavier gestured toward the back of the room. I followed his gaze and saw Mason. He was locked in a voracious, heated kiss with another guy, completely lost to the world.
