Chapter 20 – The First Accusation
Author's POV
London – Watson Enterprises
The next morning...
Keifer stepped out of the elevator with his usual confidence.
Employees greeted him respectfully.
"Good morning, Mr. Watson."
He nodded politely before walking toward the executive boardroom.
As soon as he pushed the door open...
He noticed something was wrong.
Every board member was already seated.
No one was talking.
The atmosphere was unusually tense.
Mr. Ryder stood at the front of the room, his expression unreadable.
"Please take a seat, Mr. Watson."
Keifer raised an eyebrow but calmly pulled out a chair and sat down.
One of the senior directors slid a thick file across the table.
"We have a serious problem."
Keifer glanced at the file.
"What kind of problem?"
The director folded his hands.
"Late last night, confidential financial records belonging to Watson Enterprises were leaked."
"The information has already reached one of our competitors."
Another director added,
"Our internal investigation shows that the last authorised person to access those files was you."
Silence.
Kegan frowned.
"That's impossible."
Honey immediately spoke.
"Mr. Keifer left the office with me yesterday. He never stayed behind."
Another director looked at Keifer.
"Do you have anything to say?"
Keifer didn't answer immediately.
He opened the file...
Read a few pages...
Then leaned back in his chair.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
One director frowned.
"Mr. Watson... do you find this amusing?"
Keifer let out a quiet chuckle.
"No."
"I just find it funny."
The room remained silent.
He closed the file and placed it on the table.
"If I wanted to destroy Watson Enterprises..."
"...I wouldn't do it in secret."
His eyes slowly moved across the room.
"I'd do it while looking every one of you in the eye."
Several directors exchanged surprised glances.
One of them frowned.
"Are you threatening the board?"
Keifer smirked.
"If I were threatening you..."
"...you wouldn't have to ask."
Even Mr. Ryder couldn't hide a small smile.
Keifer leaned forward.
"My mother built this company."
"I came to London to protect her legacy."
"So tell me..."
"Why would I destroy the very company I'm about to inherit?"
No one answered.
Because the question had only one logical answer.
He wouldn't.
Mr. Ryder picked up the evidence once more.
After reading it carefully, he stopped at one page.
"Interesting..."
The room turned toward him.
He adjusted his glasses.
"The login time doesn't match."
"The files were copied after Mr. Keifer had already left the building."
A murmur spread through the boardroom.
"So someone used his credentials?"
"Or someone altered the records."
Keifer stood up.
"Exactly."
"This wasn't a leak."
"It was a setup."
His gaze shifted briefly toward Clyde.
Only for a second.
But it was enough.
Clyde smiled back calmly.
Inside...
His plan had failed.
But only the first part.
Because the real trap...
...hadn't begun yet.
To Be Continued...
