Chapter 7 - Quidditch practice

Many interesting things happened during the week.

First, Basil got detention. How you ask? Well, he broke a lot of rules.

It wasn't that he was trying to find rules to break. It just occurred naturally as Basil didn't care about rules or points.

Eventually Hermione got fed up at Basil's constant disregard for the rules and began following him nagging him to listen to the rules. But that didnt last long because every time she attempted to follow him he slipped through a new hidden passage.

So much so that Hermione explored more of Hogwarts in a week than she did in her first year. Eventually Harry and Ron managed to convince her to stop her attempts of following Basil.

But that isn't all.

Basil surprised the teachers by performing spells, brewing potiond, and tending to plants with esoteric, advanced, even unknown methods.

One thing to note is that Professor Snape, the potions professor, someone known to hate Gryffindors actually complimented Basil.

It wasn't grand or loud, just 'well done'. But from Snape, that was the highest of praises especially when said to a Gryffindor. The whole school was talking about it for the next few days, even calling Basil the Potions King. The professors reactions were the same, mabye even more surprised. After all some of them worked with him for over a decade.

The Professor Snape, completing a Gryfindor? First time ever.

Although Basil broke a lot of rules he still attended classes, but one class he absolutely didnt go to was History Of Magic. Professor Binns didnt really notice as did the rest of the class, as they were either sleeping or about to sleep. No one had time to notice a missing person.

To his classmates Defense Against the Dark Arts was the opposite. After his complete disaster of a class Profassor Lockhart began acting out scenes in his books.

To a normal person the scenes were too embarrassing to act out, fortunately Basil wasn't normal, his acting and funny twist to the scenes captivated them.

Colin even made a picture book full of pictures of Basil acting, with the help of Basil and Hermione, who overheard them while following Basil. He got all the pictures moving and sorted them according to the scene and book.

Now that we got that out of the way. Let's get to the good part.

It was the first weekend of the year. Fred and George were leading Basil and Ginny at dawn, they were still sleepy yawning all the way.

"Why did you have to bring us at this ungodly hour." Ginny complained.

"If we have to suffer you have to suffer too." Fred said with a serious face, as serious as you can get with 5 hours of sleep.

Their destination was the quidditch field. When they arrived the rest of the team was already there. The keeper and captain Oliver Wood, the chasers Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet, and Katie Bell, finally the seeker Harry Potter. Apart from Oliver Wood, the rest were sitting and leaning against a wall, eyes half closed.

"We're here!" He shouted, waking them up.

"We have two new recruits here." The twins pushed Basil and Ginny in front of them.

"Here is Basil Bramwell, you may know him as the Potions King."

"And here is our sister Ginny, the youngest Weasley and she also has a crush on someone." George looked at Harry with mischievous eyes.

Harry looked at George (or Fred, we dont know who) then at Ginny, meeting her eyes. Ginny instantly turned away, hace turning red.

Angelina, Alicia, and Katie looked at the exchange full of interest, giggling and whispering to each other. Making Harry and Ginny blush.

"So you think they are good enough for the team?" Wood thought for a moment, even though the twins pranked people alot they wouldn't joke about quidditch.

Even if they were not as good as Harry if they were a fraction as good it would be acceptable.

"Wait, we didn't even see them fly." Fred and George looked at each other awkwardly.

"Whatever they should be good." Fred brushed it off. Thankfully Wood didnt hear that.

"Alright you two listen closely, after I share my strategy, we'll go out and see if you can fly with the team."

After they sat down Wood brought out a blackboard filled with complex, and highly detailed strategies.

Wood's lecture was long and boring. It made eveyone sleepy, their brains turning to mush.

"Alright any questions?" Finally, after what felt like forever Wood finally finished his lecture.

"Can we have a different captain?" Basil's question caused eveyone to pause. Then they began to laugh.

"Great idea! How didn't we think of this." The weasley twins shouted at the same time.

"We nominate Angelina."

"Stop this right now." Wood attempted to stop the twins who were just short of throwing him out.

While that was happening the rest of the team was watching them laughing.

Eventually Wood managed to keep the twins in check and they left the changing rooms towards the quidditch feild.

"Who are they?"

As they left the changing roon and entered the feild they noticed another group coming out on the other end of the feild.

"Slytherins." Wood muttered coldly.

"I booked the feild and Flint knows that. They better have a damn good reason to be here."

Wood led them towards the Slytherins as Marcus Flint, the Slytherin captain came to them.

They met in the middle of the feild glaring at each other.

"Why are you here Flint. You know I booked the feild."

Flint smirked, hand reaching into his robe. "Ahh, you see we got Professor Snape's explicit permission to train our new seeker." He took out a note and handed it over to Wood.

"New seeker?" Wood questioned as he read the note.

"Yes, out new seeker."

The Slytherlyns parted, revealing a platinum haired boy at the back.

It was Draco Malfoy.

"Draco Malfoy, pleasure to meet you." Malfoy gave a sly grin but, as he glanced at Basil his gaze faltered for a second before looking away.

"Hey Draco, looks like we're gonna compete against each other." Basil caught the attention of everone and Malfoy winced as if shocked by lightning. Fortunately everyone was looking at Basil, so nobody noticed Malfoys predicament.

"You know him?"

The Gryfindors were stunned normaly Gryfindors and Slytherins didnt get along, especially a Slytherin from one of the pureblood houses.

Not just the Gryffindors, the Slytherins were surprised too, some were eyeing Malfoy suspiciously and some were scanning Basil curiously.

"Yeah we're good friends."

Basil's response made everyone look at Malfoy. Feeling all the gazes he stiffly nodded.

"Why are you friends with that bastard. He's a foul git, you shouldn't hang around his kind."

Ron, Hermione, and Colin arrived noticing the commotion from the stands.

In the front Ron heard what Basil just said and immediately stepped forward to criticize Malfoy.

"Hah, look at you Weasley. Even your sister is better than you. Are you sure you can even fly?" Malfoy pointed to Ginny mockingly.

"Bet you haven't seen this." He showed of his broom, a Nimbus 2001. "You jealous? Even if you scrape together all your money you couldn't even buy a single twig of this."

"At least he doesn't need to buy his way in." Hermione retorted.

No one asked for your opinion, mudblood."

Everyone froze.

Then, all hell broke loose.

Wood, Fred, and George lunged at Malfoy, blocked by the Slytherins. Angelina, Katie, Alicia, and Ginny yelled furiously at Malfoy pointing madly. Basil furrowed his brows Ron took out his wand aiming at Malfoy.

Only Harry, Hermione, and Colin were left out, stunned by the recation.

"Eat slugs Malfoy." Ron's wand shot out a green spell. But it shot out the wrong way, speeding towards Rons chest.

Thankfully, before the spell could hit Ron, it changed directions and looped around everyone.

Before anyone could react, the green spell shot towards Malfoy who could only bring up his arms in time.

*BANG*

A large shockwave knocked Malfoy and the Slytherins around him to the ground.

Everone looked at Ron in shock. Not even a seventh year could do something like that, seeing a second year pull of a spell like that both surprised and confused them.

"How did you do that Ron? That's the coolest spell I've ever seen." Fred put his arm around Ron and looked at his wand. "Wait is this broken? You did that with a broken wand?" Fred curiously took the wand and rolled it around his hand.

"I..I don't know how I did it." Ron awkwardly took back his wand.

Everyone was making their own theories, each wilder than the previous, but no one noticed an inconspicuous boy stowing his wand away.

*Blech*

Suddenly the sound of someone throwing up filled the field. It was Malfoy, and on his lap wre a dozen squirming slugs.

Everone recoiled, except for Colin, who was taking pictures to the displeasure of Malfoy, and Basil, who was helping Colin take pictures.

The nearby Slytherins swiftly backed away and the Gryffindors, after the initial shock began cracking up, led by the howling Weasley boys.

"M-My father will hea-" *Blech *

Malfoy tried to talk but was interupted by another volley of slugs. Eventually he was taken to the Hospital wing by two unwilling Slytherins under Flints orders.

"What are you going to do now, Flint?" Wood looked smug as he asked him. "Your seeker can't seem to train right now."

Flint glanced at Rons wand and hesitated, sure it was probably just a fluke, but what if it wasn't, or what if it happened again? Since he was at the front he would be the likely target, and Flint hade no desire to spew out slugs.

"This isn't over."

Flint turned around and led his team off the feild.

"That feels great." Wood smiled looking at the Slytherins leaving. "Seeing Flint like that made my day."

Wood clapped his hands and sat on his broom. "Alright let's practice now."

The practice session was excellent. They completed the drills and pulled of the strategies Wood showed. The most impressive thing was Basil and Ginny's flying. Basil was a natural at flying, even tricks that Harry found difficult was easily accomplished by him. And although Ginny wasn't as good at flying, she was steady and had good situational awareness, she was always at the best place like she was flying with the team for a long time.

Time flew and soon it was reaching afternoon, they were hungry and tired as they left for the changing rooms.

"You two were awesome!" Wood complimented them. "Your flying was excellent, especially yours Basil we just need to work on your teamwork, you can't just fly by yourself, you need to be aware of where you teamates are at all times. And Ginny you are a natural team player, with some practice you could be a professional."

"Wow Ginny, I didn't know you were that good, were you practicing in secret or what?" Fred and George gave Ginny a thumbs up.

"Yea I broke into the shed and borrowed your brooms." After playing for so long, Ginny seemed to be less nervous in front of Harry which the twins noticed.

They also noticed what she just said. "What? You broke into the shed? So your the culprit, I told you someone broke in." Fred slapped George in the back.

"I guess you were right."

"Everyone huddle around." Wood rounded everone up, one last speach to the team.

"Fred, George, you two are the best beaters we could have. Angelina, Alicia, Katie, you three have the best teamwork. Harry, you are the youngest, and one of the fastest seekers of the century. And if anyone gets injured, Basil and Ginny can take up your mantles and help our team win. With all of us I beleive we will win."

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz(This is a dividing line)

Not what I really wanted but it took so long, I just winged it.

Hope it isn't that bad.
