While they waited for everyone's arrival, Detective Mulligan escorted the three members of the Valken family to a different room.
The detective brought them to a bleak-looking conference room which had no windows, only one door that led them into a large space filled with chairs and a projector.
After making sure that they had taken their seats, the tall and muscular man dimmed the lights and switched on the projector.
"Better to show you." He explained what he was up to as the screen lit up before them.
In no time, the projector began displaying images of the crime scene, from the day the accident had occurred.
From the police's first arrival at the crime scene, all the way to the last image the forensic photographer had taken on that day, every image was projected on the screen.
This allowed Nita to observe even the tiniest detail, thanks to the high-definition camera the photographer had used.
'So there really was no blood spatter on the car...' She concluded as the last slide displayed a clear image of the car, no blood in sight on any part of it.
This caused Nita to frown, which only deepened when Detective Mulligan switched the lights back on, suddenly illuminating their once dark surroundings.
The bright lights pricked Nita's eyes but they soon adapted to the brightness as her expressions returned to their usual, blank state.
Detective Mulligan had caught the frown on her face but assumed that it was caused by the images he had just displayed.
'She must be close to her brother...' He felt a pang of guilt for choosing this method to explain the case's findings to her.
However, seeing how her face became expressionless once again, he wondered if he had gotten it all wrong.
"How far has your team come in explaining my brother's disappearance?" Nita's question dragged him out of his thoughts, making him focus on her instead.
Seeing the stern look in those reddish-pink eyes, Sam felt his spine stiffen on instinct before he forced himself to relax.
"Well, not too far, considering the odd circumstances of this case..." He truthfully revealed, shaking his head in dismay.
This had to be one of the strangest cases he had been assigned throughout his career as a detective.
After all, neither did they find any useful information from the crime scene nor did they figure out the motive behind this sudden disappearance.
The crime scene was as good as new, according to the forensic team, who could not find any other DNA present at the time of the accident.
The only DNA they found was that of the victim, Detrim Valken, revealing that he had been injured in the accident.
However, this did not explain his disappearance from the accident site, which indicated that he could have been abducted in his weakened state.
"But we found no other tire marks or footprints to indicate the presence of anyone else in the vicinity." He added, as this was another anomaly they had noticed.
Since they were sure that Detrim had suffered a gunshot wound, it was obvious that there was another person present there, the one who had shot him.
Yet his assailant's prints were nowhere to be found around the accident site.
Even Detrim's footprints ceased at the spot where his blood was found, not a step ahead.
There was also no sign of anyone leaving the crime scene.
"It's almost as if the Earth swallowed them alive or they grew wings and flew away undetected!" Detective Mulligan mumbled in frustration but soon chuckled at how silly that thought even was.
Unfortunately, as he was busy shaking his head at this absurd thought, he missed the three opposite him giving each other a quick glance.
Nita's eyes found Rowan, who gave her a slight nod, as though he had understood what she was trying to say without even uttering a single word.
On the other hand, Jodie pursed his lips, trying to gauge whether the detective's innocent words could actually be true.
After all, Detective Sam Mulligan was just a human, to whom something like being swallowed by the land and flying around with wings were just amusing yet absurd thoughts.
However, to the three of them, these words meant something since they were creatures of the night.
While Jodie personally did not know anyone who could grow wings and fly, he knew a few who would have such information.
'I should ask my contacts about this!' He made up his mind on what he would do the moment they left this building.
Unaware of their thoughts, Detective Mulligan continued explaining how much the investigation had progressed in the last few days since Detrim's disappearance.
"Since we've hit a dead end trying to track the culprit, we are focusing on tracing the origin of the gun that was used to shoot him." His words succeeded in bringing their attention back to him.
Nita nodded her head as this seemed to be the best alternative that the police could focus on.
After all, the Valken family guards would be of more help in figuring out how Detrim was moved from the accident site without leaving any footprints.
"And what have you found so far?" She inquired and saw him nod at her.
"The bullet casing we found was quite unusual, you see... After all, who in their right mind would spend money on bullets made out of silver?" He frowned at the oddity they found in the biggest clue they had right now.
Not a single aspect of this case was normal and the same was true for the bullet shell they found at the crime scene.
A precious metal being used to make a bullet was unheard of for him, a detective who had worked on over a hundred cases so far.
Not to mention that their country had strict laws against gun usage, which made it difficult to procure firearms without proper licenses.
All guns purchased needed to be licensed and accounted for by the government.
This entire process was both time-consuming and expensive, designed to deter citizens from purchasing them in the first place.
However, if someone was hell-bent on owning firearms, they would have to do so from the government and in this way, the government could keep a track of every purchase.
This was to ensure that any crimes using guns could be traced back to the original owner of the gun.
"But like every country... there is a black market which sells them illegally." Detective Mulligan sighed at the budding crime in their city, thanks to these illegal sellers.
The guns sold by the government were standard-issue firearms, whereas the bullet shell found was made of silver, which indicated that it was a custom-made weapon.
"You would need a lot of money to get your hands on a custom-made gun." He explained, scanning the three sitting opposite him.
These three were members of one of the richest families in the city, so they should understand what he was trying to say.
Buying a gun illegally was already expensive so having one custom-made would increase the cost exponentially.
Only someone with wealth to waste would have such expensive tastes.
Therefore, Detective Sam Mulligan was not wrong when he revealed that someone with a lot of money could be behind Detrim's disappearance.
"Or someone with a lot of influence in the black market..." Jodie muttered, bringing their attention to him.
While his statement was right, it could not be entirely true.
"You cannot have the kind of influence needed to do something like this without enough riches." Nita corrected him and saw the detective nod from the corner of her eye.
Detective Mulligan agreed with Nita's theory, as no amount of influence without the correct sum of money would make this happen.
