Chapter 7 - The Gacha Wasn’t Rigged After All

After some more discussion between both parties, Jane slipped into her light robes and drifted off to sleep on the couch.

I stayed seated for a while, staring at nothing in particular.

Then I decided to explore the gacha function.

It was the only feature of the system I hadn't tested yet, and I was more than a little curious how it worked.

"System?" I called inwardly.

Instantly, black and gold runes materialized in my field of vision, visible to me alone.

"I'd like to spin the gacha."

The golden specks of light dissolved, reforming into a new screen.

[Please note the colors and their grades!]

[White: Common / Trash]

[Green: Uncommon]

[Blue: Rare]

[Purple: Epic]

[Please evolve to access higher tier rewards!]

As though it sensed I'd finished reading, the display broke apart into particles of light again, and a glowing wheel appeared in front of me.

The wheel contained the four listed colors.

White dominated most of it. Green took up a fair portion. Blue was scarce. And purple… there was only a single narrow slot.

My breath caught as I stared at the spinning wheel.

A small notification popped up above it.

[Do you wish to spin the wheel?]

[Yes / No]

Without hesitation, I selected 'Yes' mentally.

The screen flashed.

The wheel began spinning at lightning speed.

It spun and spun for a few seconds before gradually slowing.

The arrow at the center tracked its movement as it decelerated, gliding past white, brushing green, skipping over purple, then tipping—just slightly—onto white.

[Congratulations! You won a Basic Spoon (Level 1)]

My lips twitched.

For a brief moment, I genuinely felt the system was mocking me.

"Spin again." A vein throbbed faintly at my temple as I commanded internally.

I had to win something worthwhile. Where were the newbie gift packs? Wasn't that how these things usually worked?

The wheel slowed moments later.

White again.

A common bottle of soda.

I hesitated, then clenched my fist and ordered another spin.

Before I knew it, I was already down to 20 Ero Points. Who would've thought I had a gambling addiction buried somewhere inside me?

Another 100 Ero Points vanished.

The wheel spun again in front of me, humming faintly.

It slowed seconds later, the arrow inching across the colors.

White.

Green.

Blue.

Purple.

Just when I thought it would settle on green, it tilted ever so slightly.

My mouth fell open.

[Congratulations! You have won an Epic Skill: Eye of Insight. Please view the description below!]

The description appeared immediately.

[Eye of Insight: Can be used to view the stats of those one or two levels above you and all those below you.]

[Cost: 5 MP/sec]

"What a broken skill…" I muttered, still stunned that I'd actually won something useful.

It seemed my luck was truly too good.

On my third serious attempt, I'd hit an epic.

A grin crept onto my face.

Without wasting time, I activated Eye of Insight.

Instantly, my vision shifted.

My field of view filled with faint, translucent text layered over everything around me.

I looked at the couch.

[basic furniture: level 2]

The wooden table.

[basic furniture: level 1]

The oil container by the wall.

[basic utility tool: level 3]

Words kept flooding my sight no matter where I glanced.

Then my gaze settled on Jane.

[name: Jane Ashborn]

[class: Shadow Dancer (S-grade)]

[talent: …]

Just as I leaned in to read further, my vision dimmed abruptly and snapped back to normal.

A red warning flashed across my sight.

[Warning: You have exhausted your mana reserves!]

A dull fatigue washed over me.

I opened the system panel.

MP: [0/50]

In barely ten seconds of scanning, I'd drained everything.

"Five per second…" I muttered.

I leaned back against the couch, the exhaustion heavier than I expected. My head felt oddly light.

Somewhere between calculating and cursing my low mana pool, I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up hours later.

Turning to the side, I realized Jane was gone.

The couch was empty. The room was quiet.

She must've returned to her apartment, not wanting to disturb me.

I exhaled slowly and sat up.

Now what?

I needed to increase not just my Ero Points, but my strength overall.

If my mana drained in ten seconds just from using Eye of Insight, how was I supposed to sustain actual combat skills? What if Shadow Dancer had similar costs? I'd collapse mid-fight.

Most importantly, I still had the Shadow Dancer class active for the next eighteen hours.

I had to maximize it.

And I knew the perfect opportunity.

The logistics warehouse escort team.

Entering a dungeon was too risky. I had zero experience fighting monsters alone, and I didn't trust random teammates not to stab me in the back the moment something valuable dropped.

So I chose the more practical route.

The logistics escort team was another branch of work at the warehouse, usually assigned to the night shift.

The pay was slightly better, but that was because the job wasn't exactly safe. Their task was to ensure the secure delivery of goods across highways and outskirts.

At times, monsters would appear on the roads at night.

In those cases, they either called hunters… or handled it themselves.

Dangerous.

But profitable.

And for me, perfect.

Not only could I earn credits instead of bleeding my savings dry, I could also hunt beasts under controlled circumstances. If things got messy, there would at least be backup.

Decision made, I entered my room and rummaged through my belongings.

From beneath a stack of old clothes, I pulled out my dagger.

E-grade.

High damage output. Decent durability.

I'd found it coincidentally at the warehouse months ago, tucked inside an unclaimed crate. Since then, it had quietly become one of my most prized possessions.

I slid it behind my waist, securing it beneath my clothes.

Then I changed into a dark, flexible outfit that wouldn't restrict my movement in a fight.

Comfortable. Light. Easy to maneuver in.

After a final glance at the quiet apartment, I stepped out and headed briskly toward the logistics warehouse.

Time to test what this new class could really do.
