"I don't know why, but I feel like Kisaragi is playing a different Duel Monsters game than we are," Jounouchi muttered.
"Yeah," Yugi agreed. "This turn she didn't even attack, so neither player's Life Points changed—but she generated a huge amount of cards. That entire sequence didn't cost her resources at all. Now I get why Kaiba is so tense when he duels her."
Kaiba's eyes stayed cold, but his thoughts were razor-sharp.
(So she's stacking Spell Counters on Spellbook Star Hall (Etoile) and scaling her Spellcaster's ATK… If I let her stockpile too many counters, this duel becomes impossible. I have to end it before she snowballs.)
Kaiba's Turn
"My turn—draw!"
"I activate Ancient Rules. This lets me Special Summon a Level 5 or higher Normal Monster from my hand!"
"Come forth—Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000/2500)
A white dragon descended onto Kaiba's field, radiating a crushing aura.
"Hah… Kaiba's already brought out Blue-Eyes this fast," Honda said.
"If it were me, I'd do the same," Yugi replied. "If you don't accelerate early, her Spellbook Star Hall will gather tons of counters, and the duel only gets harder and harder."
(I'll take her down in one burst.) Kaiba's gaze hardened.
"Battle! Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack Spellbook Swordsman Shario—Burst Stream of Destruction!"
Kisaragi didn't flinch.
"Kaiba… you're rushing because you want to decide the duel quickly. But why would I let you have your way?"
"What?!" Kaiba snapped.
"I flip my set card—activate the Quick-Play Spell Spellbook of the Master—no, Spellbook of the Evil Spirit!"

"This card can be activated if I control a Spellcaster. I can banish up to three Spellbook Spells from my Graveyard, and depending on how many I banish, it applies different effects."
"Banish one: return one set Spell/Trap on the field to its owner's hand."
"Banish two: change one monster on the field to face-down Defense or face-up Attack."
"Banish three: banish one card on my opponent's field."
She didn't hesitate.
"I banish Judgment of the Spellbooks and Spellbook of Life and Death (Ice/Fire)—two cards."
"And I change your Blue-Eyes White Dragon to face-down Defense Position!"
A pale white glow wrapped around Blue-Eyes… and the dragon collapsed into a single face-down card.
"And because I activated a Spellbook Spell, Spellbook Star Hall gains another Spell Counter. My monsters gain another 100 ATK!"
Star Hall counters: 3
Shario ATK: 2000 → 2100
Kaiba narrowed his eyes, forced to swallow his momentum.
"So you neutralized my attack that easily… meaning you already saw through my line." He clicked his tongue. "Turn ends." (Hand: 1)
Kisaragi's Turn
"My turn—draw."
Kisaragi flashed Kaiba a mischievous grin.
"Kaiba… this is the turn where my Spellbooks show their true power."
"The true power…?" Kaiba's voice sharpened.
"I activate Shario's effect. I can discard one Spellbook Spell from my hand to add one Spellcaster monster from my Graveyard to my hand."
"I discard Spellbook Library of the Crescent—add Spellbook Magician of Prophecy from my Graveyard to my hand—then I Normal Summon it!"

"On summon, I add Spellbook of Creation from my Deck to my hand!"
Now she began the loop.
"I activate Spellbook of Wax. I can add one of my banished Spellbook Spells—except Wax—back to my hand."
"I choose Judgment of the Spellbooks!"
"Tch… again?!" Kaiba's annoyance broke through.
"I activate Judgment of the Spellbooks. I won't explain the effect again!"
"And next—I activate Spellbook of Creation."
She laid out the technical text with surgical confidence:
"As long as I control a Spellcaster, I reveal one Spellbook card in my hand. Then I target one Normal Spellbook Spell in my Graveyard (other than Creation). This card's effect becomes the same as that targeted Spellbook's activation effect."
She revealed a Field Spell in hand:
"I reveal The Grand Spellbook Tower to you."
"I target Spellbook of Wax in my Graveyard—then I resolve that effect, adding the banished Ice/Fire Spellbook back to my hand!"
And immediately:
"I activate Ice/Fire Spellbook—send Spellbook Magician of Prophecy to the Graveyard—and draw two cards!"
Then she dropped the Field Spell.
"Next, I activate the Field Spell The Grand Spellbook Tower! As long as I have a Spellcaster on the field or in the Graveyard, during each of my Standby Phases I can return one Spellbook Spell from my Graveyard to the bottom of my Deck, then draw one card."
Kaiba's eyes widened—genuine shock.
"Every turn you can recycle a Spellbook Spell from the Graveyard…?!"
Kisaragi didn't answer with words. She answered with numbers.
"At this point, I've activated five Spellbook Spells this turn. Therefore, Spellbook Star Hall gains five Spell Counters—and Shario gains 500 ATK!"
Star Hall counters: 8
Shario ATK: 2100 → 2600
"Battle! Shario, attack Battle Ox!"
Kaiba's eyes flashed.
"Kisaragi, you're the naive one! I activate the Trap Dimensional Prison—when you declare an attack, your attacking monster is banished!"
Kisaragi's smile sharpened.
"Kaiba… the naive one is you."
"What?!" Kaiba snapped.
"I activate Quick-Play Spell Spellbook of Law from my hand. I target one Spellcaster I control—until the end of the turn, it's unaffected by Trap effects!"
"So Shario won't be banished."
"And because I activated another Spellbook Spell, Star Hall gains one more counter!"
Star Hall counters: 9
Shario ATK: 2600 → 2700
Shario's blade cleaved Battle Ox apart.
Kaiba's Life Points dropped.
Kaiba LP 4000 → 3200
"I set two cards. Turn end!"
End Phase — Judgment Reloads Again
"In the End Phase, I resolve Judgment of the Spellbooks."
"I add four Spellbook Spells from my Deck to my hand—then I Special Summon Spellbook Warrior, Farse!"

And, just like before, her hand swelled past the limit.
"End Phase: I have eight cards in hand, so I discard two." (Hand remaining: 6)
