She knew Duelists in this era tended to judge everything by raw attack points—but she hadn't expected Rex's perspective to be this narrow.
"Master Hyperion can Special Summon itself from the hand by banishing one 'Agent' monster from your hand, field, or Graveyard."
"I banish The Agent of Mystery — Earth from my field—Special Summon this card!"
A burst of flame swallowed Earth. In the next instant, a warrior in black-and-gold armor descended onto Kisaragi's field.
Master Hyperion (ATK 2700 / DEF 2100)
"Two-thousand seven-hundred attack?!" Rex's face twisted. He hadn't imagined this girl could drop a monster that strong so casually.
"And I'm not done," Kisaragi smiled. "I activate Hyperion's effect: once per turn, I can banish one LIGHT Fairy from my Graveyard, then target one card on the field—destroy it. However…"
"H-However what?" Rex's gut tightened with a bad feeling.
"As long as The Sanctuary in the Sky is on my field, that 'once per turn' becomes twice per turn."
"What?! So you can destroy two of my cards?!"
"At least you can count," Kisaragi said coolly. "I banish twoMystical Shine Balls from my Graveyard—destroy Dark Trigon Bird Dragon and Two-Headed King Rex!"
Hyperion raised both hands. A blazing sphere—like a miniature solar system—formed between his palms. On Rex's side of the field, gravity layers stacked and collapsed inward, crushing both monsters instantly.
"Now you're down two monsters."
"Battle!" Kisaragi snapped. "The Agent of Creation — Venus attacks Fleet-Footed Raptor!"
Rex Raptor: 4000 → 3800 LP
"Next—Master Hyperion, direct attack!"
Rex Raptor: 3800 → 1100 LP
"I set two cards. Turn end! (Cards in hand: 1)"
Kisaragi's eyes narrowed.
"You said before the match you'd 'go easy on me.' You're pouring out so much 'mercy' you might drown yourself and lose."
The arena went dead silent.
A moment ago, the crowd had been whispering that she was a clueless newbie—now they were staring like they'd just witnessed a completely different species of Duelist.
From the VIP seats came applause.
"Bravo! What a magnificent tactic!" Maximillion Pegasus praised, grinning.
Beside him, Seto Kaiba merely smirked and said nothing.
In front of the TV, Yugi's group was speechless.
"I see it now," Yugi Mutou said at last. "Spending a huge amount of LP earlier was to stock the Graveyard with Fairies—so she could fuel Hyperion's effect. That's… an incredible line."
"At this rate, her victory is basically guaranteed," Honda said.
"No," Grandpa Sugoroku corrected. "As long as your Life Points aren't zero, either side can still win. That's the possibility of Duel Monsters."
Back on the field: Rex Raptor's Turn
"Damn it… You made me look like a clown. Next turn, you're paying for this."
"My turn—draw!"
"I activate Pot of Greed—draw two cards!"
"Then I activate Earthquake! Its effect forces all monsters on the field into Defense Position!"
The entire arena trembled. Kisaragi's monsters dropped into defensive stances.
"Next, I Normal Summon Balloon Lizard in Attack Position!"
Balloon Lizard (ATK 500 / DEF 1900)
"What is Rex doing?" Anzu blurted out at the TV. "Even if her monsters are in Defense, he still can't beat what she's got!"
"He's got something in mind," Yugi murmured.
"I activate Super Evolution Pill! By tributing one Reptile monster I control, I can Special Summon one Dinosaur from my hand!"
"Dinosaurs evolve from small creatures—slowly, step by step!"
"I tribute Balloon Lizard—Special Summon Black Tyranno from my hand!"
A pitch-black tyrant dinosaur appeared, built like a T-Rex carved out of shadow.
Black Tyranno (ATK 2600 / DEF 1800)
"This turn I finish you! Black Tyranno has an effect: if your opponent only controls Defense Position monsters, it can attack directly!"
"Your Life Points are only 2500—do you really think you can survive my hit?!"
"So that's it…" Yugi realized. "He used Earthquake specifically to enable Black Tyranno's direct-attack effect."
"If he lands that, Kisaragi loses," Anzu said tensely.
But in the VIP box, Kaiba didn't look worried at all. He knew her too well.
"Kaiba-boy," Pegasus teased. "Looks like you trust her a lot."
"Hmph. Kisaragi won't fall to a cheap trick like that," Kaiba said.
Pegasus didn't respond—he just wore that strangely knowing smile.
Battle Phase
"Battle! Black Tyranno, direct attack!"
Black Tyranno thundered toward Kisaragi, raising its foot as if to crush her—
Then it stopped.
And, as if forced back by an invisible boundary, it returned to Rex's side of the field.
"What the hell?!" Rex shouted.
"Nothing complicated," Kisaragi said, pointing at her back row. "I activated this Trap."
"I activate the Continuous Trap The Sanctuary in the Sky—Lost Paradise!"
"When this card is activated, I can Set The Sanctuary in the Sky—or a Spell/Trap that lists it in its text—directly from my Deck."
She selected a card from her deck and placed it onto the field.
"The real reason your Black Tyranno can't attack me is this card's second effect: I can banish one Fairy from my Graveyard, then target one Effect Monster you control—its effect is negated until the end of the turn."
"I banish my third Mystical Shine Ball—negate Black Tyranno's effect! Now it can't direct attack me by its monster effect!"
"Tch. So it can't direct attack—so what?" Rex snarled. "My Battle Phase isn't over!"
"Black Tyranno—attack Master Hyperion!"
With a brutal tail-whip, Black Tyranno smashed Hyperion apart.
"Now your boss monster is gone. I set one card. Turn end! (Cards in hand: 0)"
