Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: World of Prophecy — Duremond

"Like I said—Kisaragi has no cards on the field! If that attack lands, she loses!" Jounouchi shouted.

"I've won!" Kaiba's eyes blazed with excitement.

"That's… hard to say," Kisaragi replied. "Take a good look at your monster."

"What?!" Kaiba's face stiffened.

Just as the white blast from Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon was about to reach her, a small black pig suddenly appeared on Kisaragi's field. It took the full force of the attack—and with a grotesque snap, its skeleton burst free from its body.

"What the hell is that?!" Kaiba demanded.

"Don't be surprised," Kisaragi said calmly. "I activate the effect of That Wacky Alchemy Pig in my Graveyard. By banishing it from the Graveyard, I can negate one of your attacks."

"You had a card like that in your Graveyard…? When did it even get there?" Kaiba asked, disbelief creeping into his voice.

"Didn't I have to discard because my hand size was too big at the end of two turns?" Kisaragi replied.

"So it was then…?" Kaiba's expression shifted—genuine surprise. He hadn't expected her to plan that far ahead.

"Hmph. Not bad," Kaiba said, forcing his pride back into place. "But my Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon has 4500 ATK. You're not surpassing that so easily!"

"Turn end!" (Hand: 0)

"No," Kisaragi said. "If you couldn't beat me that turn, then you don't have a path to victory anymore."

"What?! Impossible. I'm controlling my strongest monster—there's no way it goes down that easily!"

Kisaragi ignored him and drew.

"My turn—draw!"

"I activate the Equip Spell Spellbook of the Dead. Its effect: I banish one Spellcaster monster from my Graveyard, then reveal one other 'Spellbook' Spell in my hand… Special Summon one Spellcaster monster from my Graveyard in face-up Attack Position, and equip this card to it."

She moved cleanly through the steps.

"I banish Spellbook Magician from my Graveyard. Then I reveal Spellbook of Wisdom from my hand—Special Summon World of Prophecy — Duremond!"

World of Prophecy — Duremond (2900/2400)

"Because of Duremond's effect, I add Spellbook of Life and Spellbook Star Hall from my Graveyard to my hand!"

Kaiba scoffed. "So you're going back to pumping Star Hall for ATK again? Don't make me laugh. My Ultimate Dragon is at 4500. Before you pile up enough Spell Counters, your monsters will be erased."

Yugi frowned. "Kaiba's right… The ATK gap is 1600. To reach 4500 through Star Hall boosts alone, she'd need 16 Spell Counters—meaning she'd need to activate 16 'Spellbook' Spells. That's not realistic."

Kisaragi's eyes sharpened. "I never planned to beat you by raising ATK with Star Hall."

Kaiba's smile vanished. "What…?"

"I activate Duremond's second effect: after adding Spellbooks to my hand with its earlier effect, I can reveal four different 'Spellbook' Spells in my hand. Then—destroy every card on the field except this card."

"What?!" Kaiba unconsciously took a step back.

Kisaragi spread her hand.

Spellbook of Secrets.

Spellbook of Life.

Spellbook of Wisdom.

Spellbook of the Dead.

Four distinct Spellbooks—fully revealed.

Behind Duremond, four weapons manifested in midair: a sword, a spear, a bow, and a battle axe. They moved like extensions of its will, streaking forward—

and carving into Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

The dragon let out a furious, pained howl… and vanished.

"My… Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon… just like that…?" Kaiba whispered, stunned into emptiness.

Kisaragi didn't pause.

"Now I activate Spellbook of Wisdom! This card increases a Spellcaster monster's ATK by 1000!"

World of Prophecy — Duremond (3900/2400)

"Battle! Duremond—direct attack!"

Kaiba Seto's Life Points: 3200 → 0

Kisaragi Aoi wins!

"Kaiba… lost? Just like that?!" Jounouchi blurted out.

"Aibo," Yami Yugi said, staring at Kisaragi, "it looks like our strongest opponent… is her. We'll need to rebuild our decks."

Yugi nodded quietly.

On the platform, Kaiba sank to one knee, head lowered, eyes hollow.

"Kaiba…" Kisaragi walked over, crouched down, and met his gaze at eye level.

"Kaiba—your deck can only run three copies of the same card. The 'fourth Blue-Eyes White Dragon' you're chasing… is just obsession."

She placed a card into his hand—

Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon.

"Let Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon be your deck's 'fourth Blue-Eyes.'"

When Kaiba saw the card, his heart thudded violently. Light returned to his eyes—along with unmistakable excitement.

"You're really giving this to me? But our agreement said I can't accept it," he said, still fighting himself.

Kisaragi took his hand, set the card firmly into his palm, and covered it with her own.

"Kaiba—you're a superb wielder of White Dragons. You'll bring out this card's true power."

As she spoke, the silhouette of a white dragon rose behind her—watching Kaiba, as if acknowledging him.

"…Then I'll accept it," Kaiba said, standing—and pulling her up with him. "Thank you."

"Hey, hey—cut it out with the public PDA," Jounouchi groaned, rolling his eyes. The others snickered.

Only then did Kisaragi realize Kaiba was still holding her hand. Her face warmed and flushed; she quickly pulled her hand back.

Kaiba felt a small, sharp flicker of disappointment.

"Tch. You mutt—can't say a single decent thing," Kaiba snapped at Jounouchi, then turned away and left.

Kisaragi walked to Grandpa Mutou.

"Grandpa Mutou—Kaiba won't target your Blue-Eyes White Dragon again. I apologize for what he did."

"Hahahaha, it's fine," Grandpa said warmly. "Young people being too proud is normal. And I should be thanking you—I've lived half a century and I've never seen a Duelist this strong. Calling you the strongest Duelist in this country wouldn't even be an exaggeration."

"You're praising me too much," Kisaragi replied.

"Grrrkk—"

A horribly out-of-place sound rang out.

Everyone turned to Jounouchi. His face went bright red.

Kisaragi chuckled. "Hehe… everyone's hungry, right? I'll make Kaiba treat us all—consider it an apology."

She called him.

"Why would I treat them?!" Kaiba's voice erupted through the phone.

"Kaiba," Kisaragi said sweetly, "I'm hungry too."

"…Tch." A reluctant sigh. "Fine. We'll go to that restaurant. Bring them along."

"Deal!" Kisaragi hung up.

"You all heard him—let's go!" she said, leading the way. Everyone followed.

"If Kaiba's paying, I'm not holding back!" Jounouchi declared.

"With your appetite, you still couldn't bankrupt Kaiba," Honda shot back.

"Mind your own business!"
