Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Transfer Student

"I lost…" Mokuba leaned back in his chair, staring up at the chandelier. After a moment, he sat up again.

"Now I'm completely sure my brother really did lose to Big Sis Kisaragi," he said.

Kaiba, already replaying the duel in his mind, spoke in a cold, analytical tone. "She set Death Rabbit early, then used Rescue Rabbit and Rescue Cat to assemble four Normal Monsters, and finished in one burst. Her skill level… isn't something you can see through."

Mokuba looked at her with bright curiosity. "Big Sis Kisaragi, you're that good—have you never lost before?"

"Mokuba," she said evenly, "any game has wins and losses. No one can win forever."

"Oh?" Kaiba's interest sharpened. "So you have lost. I'm curious—who did you lose to?"

"That was a long time ago," Kisaragi replied. "Back when I'd just started playing Duel Monsters, and I didn't have any strong cards. Of course I lost more often."

Kaiba nodded, apparently accepting the logic.

Just then, the clock in Kaiba's mansion chimed.

"It's late," Kaiba said, rising. "I'll take you to your room."

"I'm coming too!" Mokuba jumped up.

"Then I'll be in your care," Kisaragi said politely.

Mokuba held her hand and led the way down the hall, Kaiba following behind.

"Big Sis Kisaragi, this is your room," Mokuba said. "My brother's room is right next to yours, and mine is across the hall. If you need anything, just come ask."

"Thanks," Kisaragi said, ruffling his hair.

"And thank you too, President Kaiba."

"Don't call me 'President' when you're not at KaibaCorp," Kaiba said. "It sounds awkward."

"Alright. Then I'll go back to my room."

"Mm. Rest well." Kaiba watched her step inside.

As soon as the door closed, Mokuba nudged Kaiba with his elbow, grinning.

"Brother—Big Sis Kisaragi is really nice. You'd better seize your chance!"

"You brat—itching for a punishment?" Kaiba's voice dropped.

A chill ran up Mokuba's spine. He immediately retreated to his own room.

Kaiba glanced once at Kisaragi's door, then entered his room as well.

Inside, Kisaragi looked around in amazement, as if she'd walked into a presidential suite.

"As expected of Kaiba's mansion… this one room is bigger than my whole place. That's absurd," she murmured.

Since I'm living the rich life for once… I should enjoy it.

She ran a bath, grabbed fresh clothes, and went into the bathroom.

"Ah… that feels amazing." Wearing a bathrobe, she sat on the bed and blow-dried her hair.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"Come in!" she answered without thinking—forgetting she wasn't in her old apartment anymore.

The door opened.

"Kisaragi, tomorrow—" Kaiba stepped in, then froze at the sight of her in a bathrobe.

His throat suddenly felt dry. His heartbeat spiked.

He turned sharply and backed out, closing the door almost too fast.

Only then did Kisaragi realize what she'd done. Her face went hot as she hurriedly found something proper to wear.

Once dressed, she stepped into the hallway, still red-faced.

"S-sorry," Kaiba said stiffly. "I didn't mean to—"

"It's fine," she replied softly. "I didn't pay attention to what I was wearing and told you to come in. That's on me."

An awkward silence stretched between them—thin, strange, and impossible to ignore.

Kisaragi broke it first. "So… what did you need at this hour?"

"Tomorrow I'm going to school," Kaiba said. "I want you to come with me."

He handed her a set of girls' high school uniform.

At the word school, Kisaragi's head started to ache.

"Do I really have to go?" she asked.

"You do," Kaiba replied. "You're about my age—you should have a school on paper. It's mostly a formality, but with a graduation credential, your entry into KaibaCorp will be legitimate."

"…Fine." Kisaragi accepted the uniform.

"Seven a.m. tomorrow. I'll be waiting downstairs."

"Got it."

Back in her room, she stared at the uniform and sighed.

"Unbelievable… I have to do high school again."

She hated school most of all—back then she'd been near the bottom of the class. She'd finally graduated… and now, after transmigrating, she had to go right back.

"No choice," she muttered. "When you're under someone's roof, you follow their rules."

Meanwhile, Kaiba lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

All he could see was the image from earlier—Kisaragi in that bathrobe.

"…Damn it. What's wrong with me?" he growled into the dark.

The Next Morning

Kaiba, dressed in his uniform, waited on the first floor.

Kisaragi came down wearing hers.

Kaiba's face remained expressionless. "Let's go."

But in his chest, a flicker of genuine admiration rose—quiet, undeniable.

They drove to school. The luxury car stopped at the gate.

Kaiba didn't act "low-profile" so much as he was simply indifferent—but between his looks and the fact he was the president of Kaiba Entertainment Group, he drew attention the moment he stepped out.

"Wow—Kaiba-sama actually came to school!"

"He's handsome today too!"

Then Kaiba turned back, reached out, and took Kisaragi's hand, guiding her out of the car.

The girls at the gate went rigid, like statues.

"H-hey, did you see that? The girl Kaiba dragged out—she's gorgeous. That has to be his girlfriend, right?"

"Obviously! Look at his eyes—he's softer with her."

Plenty of boys were staring too.

"Did you see her? Silver long hair, blue eyes… she's exactly my type!"

"Unfair! Kaiba's got the face, the money, the power—and now a girlfriend that pretty? Some people have everything!"

By the time they entered, the whole school was buzzing about Kaiba and the mysterious transfer student.

In the Classroom

Kaiba's class was noisy and restless when the homeroom teacher walked in.

"Everyone, quiet down. Today, a transfer student is joining our class."

He gestured at the doorway. "Come in."

Kisaragi stepped inside—and instantly drew every gaze.

"Whoa… a total beauty," said a blond boy.

"Jounouchi," the boy beside him sighed, sporting a pompadour, "wipe your drool."

"This is the kind of girl you're supposed to drool over," Jounouchi shot back.

Kisaragi scanned the room.

Yugi Mutou… Jounouchi… Bakura… they're all here.

"Kisaragi-san," the teacher said, "please introduce yourself."

"Yes!"

"Hello, everyone. My name is Kisaragi Aoi. I just came to Domino City a few days ago, so I'm unfamiliar with the place. I hope we can all get along."

"Kisaragi Aoi… what a nice name…" Jounouchi was fully gone, eyes glazed like a man possessed.

Honda leaned over. "Jounouchi—who do you think the teacher will seat her next to?"

"Obviously I'm praying it's me," Jounouchi whispered.

It wasn't just him—half the boys in the room were silently begging for the same.

The teacher swept his eyes across the classroom, then said:

"Kisaragi-san, you'll sit at…"
