Mary and I have been friends since before we were born. Our moms met in high school and from there it was history.
They were inseparable from the start. They even promised that there kids would marry each other so that they would really be family. However, fate had a different plan: they both had daughters, Mary and me, Alyssa.
Mary was born a month better me and it showed. She reached milestones first – talking, walking, and to top it off, exceeded me in height. I suppose you could say I was a "late bloomer".
Like our mothers, we've been inseparable, so much so that we're often mistaken for sisters. But Mary, the extroverted athlete, and I, the more I laid back and academically inclined one. We couldn't be further from similar, but, somehow it has always made our friendship work.
I've always loved Mary, at first that feeling of love was more like sisterhood. But that feeling then evolved into something much deeper. A different kind of love that grew in the start of middle school, a yearning to be more than just her friend or sister. But instead, her lover.
I started noticing her beautiful warm shaded long brown hair that fit her face perfectly and those beautiful olive green eyes. While I, on the other hand, an average looking girl with black hair and dark brown eyes. How could I compare to someone as beautiful as her, my one and only, Mary Claire.
When did I realize I wanted something more with Mary? It was the moment she got her first girlfriend….
