Chapter 36 - School?

It was a brand-new day. The sun came out early and the weather was warm. Moonlight opened his window and smiled happily at a new morning.

After a whole night of thinking, comparing, listing and choosing the most important points on the debate with a topic, 'To stay or to leave.' He finally had a more suitable answer.

"No."

Febia's face fell to the table while Phoenix covered her face.

"I'm not going. I'm staying." Moonlight continued.

Phoenix listened to his answer and immediately knew there was nothing she could do. But as a mother, she had to do something. She placed her elbow on the table and stared persuasively at him.

"May I ask why?" She asked with a quiet tone.

Moonlight placed his hands on his chest and began. "Mother, you lied to me."

"Huh."

"After our visit to that so-called prestigious library, I realized something. Everything there is already at the Adna library back at the island. You knew I had already read everything this world has to offer and yet, you encourage me to go to school. To gain knowledge on something I already know. Why must you lie?"

Febia couldn't help but give a small laugh after hearing his long ass point. She wiped the smile off her face as she noticed Phoenix staring at her, menacingly.

Phoenix leaned on the chair and looked at Moonlight. She knew she messed up. Moonlight's an Adna, meaning he is naturally smart and highly perceptive.

"Umm, yes, I did tell you that. But think about other things. Just having knowledge isn't enough."

She stood up, knelt in front of him and placed her hands on his shoulder.

"Sometimes you have to visualize things rather than just knowing about it. If you go to school, you get to visualize and see the world from a whole new perspective."

Phoenix then warmly held his face.

"I told you a school is heaven or hell depending on perspective, right? If you stay, you will find yourself regretting later on. I am your mother. I naturally know what is best for my son. So, go to school."

She ended finally by giving him a warm and gentle hug.

Moonlight's heart seemed to be swayed, and the tension of the room slowly began to come down.

"Phoenix, did you gain a new insight from school?" Febia asked from the sidelines.

Phoenix looked to her direction.

"I only spent two years in school due to certain problems. Did I gain an insight? Yes. I was constantly being watched by the entire student body, and I found it interesting that despite…"

Phoenix paused and eyed Moonlight. She then realized her mistake and immediately gave a false smile.

"Liar,"

This one word from Moonlight shook Phoenix to the core.

Febia then gave another stream of laughs and this time, she let her voice ring out through the entire parlor.

While still laughing, she muttered, "Who knew Adna's the perfect species were weak emotionally. This is too funny, I can't watch. Haha…"

"If you can't watch then should I blind those eyes."

Phoenix said in a threatening volume, causing Febia shut up for a while.

"But it still is impressive. Finishing school in two years is no small feat. Did you dropout or something?" Febia asked.

Phoenix stayed quiet and went into thinking. Will her answer strengthen Moonlight resolve or will it break it?

"I did not dropout but rather finished it. I already knew everything the school had to offer. So, what would the school have done? Graduate me before my time."

Febia was amazed and asked another, "I see. Does that mean Cloud may be returning in two-year time?"

"He can but he won't. Unlike other Adna's, he has a goal. I'm sure he would prefer to stay in school than to come back home. Though, I don't even have the urge to see my sister."

"You have a sister?"

"Yes, Older sister. She was the main reason I stayed two years. Without her, I would have been done in just a year."

"Wow. Impressive,"

Febia clapped in astonishment, signifying the conservation's end.

Moonlight was impressed by his Mother's achievement but he mimicked a blank expression to hide the fact he wasn't interested.

"Hey there, Moonlight."

"Ahh!" screamed Febia.

"What are you doing, Old man?!"

"Calm down I'm here for Moonlight. Boy, you have to go to school."

"Is that what you're here for? What do you think we were doing before now?"

"I don't have time for your rambling. My reason is Moonlight. Moonlight, you have to go to school."

"Why?"

"If you don't, you won't know the difference between transfer and release. Haven't you wondered why the one book which held an answer to the question you longed for; somehow stopped midway?"

"Wait. So you're at fault!"

"I don't know. But, if you want an answer, go to school. Bye."

"And he's gone."

Febia lay unconscious on the floor, due to shock.

Phoenix was agitated but on seeing Moonlight, she calmed down.

"So, are you going to school?"

Phoenix asked.
