The third booking with Daniel was for a brand that made furniture, which was a category Lina had not worked in before and which turned out to require a completely different quality of presence. The brief called for someone who looked like they lived in the space rather than occupied it for a photograph. Daniel had described this to her beforehand, on the phone, with the patient clarity he used for all professional communication.

"It has to look like the room belongs to you," he said. "Not like you're visiting it."

"I know the difference," she said.

"I know you know," he said. "I'm just telling you the brief."

"You're nervous about the brief," she said.

A pause on the line. "I'm never nervous."

"You explained the same concept twice in different words."

Another pause. "The client is particular."

"I'll look like I live there," she said. "I promise."
