Chapter 10 - Guardian of the Core

The golden light did not flicker.

It erupted.

The base of the Tower split open completely, stone and metal folding outward like petals forced apart from inside. A massive column of radiant energy shot upward through the Tower's hollow core and slammed directly into the rift above the city. The sky convulsed. The colossal silver eye twitched violently as the beam collided with its descending form.

The golden construct emerged fully.

It was not organic. Not mechanical. Not human.

It was armor shaped around pure energy.

A massive humanoid figure of radiant gold rose from within the Tower, easily matching the size of the Colossus's exposed torso. Its surface was layered with shifting geometric patterns, constantly reconfiguring. No visible face. Only a smooth helm with a vertical slit glowing intensely.

The Colossus reacted instantly.

Both of its colossal arms lunged downward.

The golden construct raised one arm.

They collided.

The impact did not produce fire.

It produced silence.

For half a second, all sound vanished from the city.

Then the shockwave hit.

Buildings shattered. Streets ripped apart. Windows imploded for miles. Arav was thrown backward across rubble like paper in a storm.

[HP: 31% → 19%]

He forced himself up immediately.

The Colossus and the golden construct were locked mid-air, pushing against each other above the skyline. The rift tore wider under strain. Reality warped violently around their clash.

Dante staggered beside him, coughing blood. Mira held herself upright using gravity to stabilize her stance.

The golden construct twisted its arm sharply and forced the Colossus backward a meter through the rift.

The Colossus responded by unleashing a beam from its massive eye directly into the golden construct's chest.

The beam hit.

Golden plating cracked across the construct's torso.

But it did not fall.

Instead, it grabbed the Colossus's beam source directly—its eye—and squeezed.

The sky shattered with distortion ripples.

Foreign awakeners retreated further. No one could intervene at this scale.

Arav's system flickered violently.

[Unknown Entity Identified: Tower Core Guardian]

[Authority Classification: Independent]

Independent.

Not aligned with correction units.

Not aligned with humanity either.

The Guardian twisted, dragging half the Colossus's torso sideways through the rift.

The Colossus roared, releasing both arms and swinging a massive elbow into the Guardian's side.

The golden construct smashed into two skyscrapers mid-air.

Both buildings collapsed instantly.

Dust swallowed half the skyline.

The Colossus forced itself further through the rift during the distraction.

Its chest and upper abdomen now fully visible.

Its lower half still trapped above the tear.

The Guardian re-emerged from dust cloud and launched upward.

It struck the Colossus directly in the sternum with a concentrated golden blast.

The rift trembled violently.

Cracks spidered outward across the sky.

Arav felt the authority pressure spike.

His black-and-gold mark burned intensely.

System alert:

[Existence Instability Rising]

The Colossus grabbed the Guardian by the helm and slammed it downward into the Tower.

The Tower shook violently.

The base cratered.

Golden light flickered across its structure.

Arav's heart skipped.

If the Tower collapsed—

Reality might tear fully open.

The Guardian recovered instantly and fired a radial burst of golden shards outward.

They pierced into the Colossus's exposed torso.

White energy leaked from multiple impact points.

The Colossus reacted violently.

Its silver eye glowed brighter than before.

A second beam formed.

Wider.

Stronger.

Arav activated Chrono Mark instinctively.

Time slowed.

He analyzed trajectory.

The beam was aimed not at the Guardian—

But at the Tower itself.

If it fired, the Tower would be erased.

He resumed time and sprinted toward the Tower base.

Dante followed without hesitation.

Mira compressed gravity upward, trying to alter the beam angle.

The Colossus fired.

The beam tore downward toward the Tower.

Arav activated Time Anchor Lock despite brutal cooldown warnings.

Time froze again.

His HP drained immediately.

[HP: 19% → 12% → 8%]

He ran directly toward the beam's frozen path.

It was enormous this time.

He couldn't redirect fully.

He could only split it.

He plunged his authority-infused hand into the beam's center.

Golden veins across his arm flared violently.

He forced the beam's trajectory slightly apart into two separate streams.

Time resumed.

The beam split mid-descent.

One half carved across the city outskirts.

The other struck the Guardian instead of the Tower.

The Guardian absorbed the impact but was driven backward through multiple high-rises.

The Tower survived.

Barely.

Arav collapsed to one knee.

Vision blurring.

System flickering violently.

The Guardian rose again.

Its golden armor cracked but reforming.

The Colossus's torso finally forced itself fully through the rift.

Only its lower limbs remained above.

The city darkened under its shadow.

The Guardian launched upward again.

Both colossal entities collided mid-air once more.

This time, the Guardian shifted tactics.

Instead of pushing back—

It latched onto the Colossus's torso and surged with golden energy.

A massive golden sigil formed around both entities in the sky.

Containment pattern.

The Colossus struggled violently.

The rift shook uncontrollably.

Arav forced himself upright again.

He felt something new.

The black-and-gold mark on his arm resonated with the Guardian's energy.

System message flickered faintly.

[Synchronization Opportunity Detected]

He understood immediately.

He needed to connect.

He sprinted toward the Tower base again.

Climbed fractured debris.

Reached a still-glowing golden conduit at its core.

He slammed his hand into it.

Energy exploded through his body.

Pain overwhelming.

But connection established.

Above, the golden sigil around the Colossus intensified.

The Guardian's power surged.

The Colossus roared and fired multiple authority bursts outward randomly.

One blast vaporized an entire empty district.

Another carved through distant hills.

The Guardian tightened the sigil.

The rift shrank slightly.

The Colossus's lower half began resisting upward pull.

It tried to climb down instead of retreat.

Arav poured more authority into the conduit.

Golden light intensified around his arm.

The black mark fully integrated with gold patterns.

The sigil tightened further.

The Colossus's lower limbs began retracting upward against its will.

The silver eye flared with blinding intensity.

It focused directly on Arav.

A narrow beam fired straight downward at him.

He had no Time Anchor left.

No cooldown complete.

He braced—

The Guardian reacted first.

It shifted its body mid-air and intercepted the beam with its own chest.

Golden armor shattered across its torso.

The beam dispersed.

The Guardian staggered.

The Colossus used the opening.

It tore one arm free of the sigil and slammed the Guardian into the rift edge violently.

The golden containment pattern fractured.

The rift widened again.

The Colossus forced itself downward another meter.

Arav screamed and pushed more authority into the conduit.

Blood streamed from his nose and ears.

System warning flashing red.

[Critical Overload Imminent]

The Guardian responded.

It abandoned physical restraint.

Instead, it grabbed the Colossus's torso and ignited itself.

Its entire body turned blinding gold.

Energy surged outward in a dome.

The rift trembled violently.

The Colossus roared.

The Guardian exploded.

Not destructively outward—

But inward.

A massive implosion of golden energy swallowed the Colossus's upper body.

The rift snapped shut halfway instantly.

The Colossus's torso was dragged upward violently.

Only its head and one arm remained below.

The silver eye flickered violently.

The Colossus struggled desperately.

Arav maintained conduit connection.

Poured everything he had left.

HP dropping rapidly.

[HP: 8% → 5% → 3%]

The rift shrank further.

The Colossus's head was forced upward.

The silver eye locked onto him one final time.

Then—

The rift sealed.

Completely.

Silence fell over the city.

The sky cleared slowly.

Clouds drifted back into place.

The Tower pulsed once.

Then stabilized.

Arav collapsed fully.

Darkness creeping in at edges of vision.

Dante caught him before he hit the ground.

Mira dropped beside him, hands trembling but steady enough to stabilize his breathing.

System flickered faintly one last time.

[Colossus-Class Unit Repelled]

[Deviation: 41.2%]

[Tower Core Guardian: Destroyed]

Destroyed.

The Guardian was gone.

The Tower stood silent.

But not unchanged.

A thin vertical crack now ran down its entire height.

Glowing faint gold.

Arav's consciousness faded slowly.

But before full blackout—

He saw it.

High above the sealed sky—

Not a rift.

Not a tear.

But a faint outline.

Like something watching from beyond closed reality.

A silhouette.

Massive.

Still.

And patient.

System message appeared faintly.

[External Authority Monitoring Continues]

Then everything went black.
