Chapter 13 - Floor Two: War Simulation

The staircase did not lead to a corridor.

It opened into a battlefield.

The moment Arav stepped onto the final stair, the environment shifted violently around them. Concrete dust, smoke, broken metal, and shattered buildings replaced the smooth interior of the Tower. The sky above was gray and torn with artificial lightning. Sirens echoed in the distance. The ground trembled under continuous impact.

System interface appeared instantly.

[Floor Two: War Simulation]

[Objective: Hold the Line]

[Failure Condition: Breach of Defense Zone]

A translucent barrier flickered behind them, marking a rectangular zone across several ruined city blocks.

Ahead—

Hundreds of enemies.

Not humanoid this time.

Mechanical beasts mixed with armored humanoid units.

Heavy artillery platforms rolling forward on six-legged frames.

Flying drones circling above.

This wasn't a duel.

It was siege warfare.

Dante exhaled sharply. "You're kidding."

"No," Arav replied.

The first artillery unit fired.

A compressed white projectile streaked toward the barrier behind them.

Mira reacted instantly, forcing gravity upward to deflect its trajectory.

The projectile curved slightly but still detonated close.

The barrier flickered.

System update.

[Defense Zone Integrity: 97%]

So the goal was clear.

Prevent breach.

The enemy wave began advancing in formation.

Not chaotic.

Organized.

Arav activated Chrono Mark lightly.

Time slowed.

He scanned the battlefield.

Three primary threats:

Artillery units at mid-range.

Flying drones above providing targeting.

Heavy armored vanguard breaking through front.

He resumed time.

"Dante — air. Mira — artillery. I'll break vanguard."

They moved without hesitation.

Arav sprinted forward into the advancing line.

The first armored vanguard unit swung a massive hammer-like weapon downward.

He slid beneath the strike and sliced at its leg joint.

Armor resisted.

Thicker plating than Floor One.

He stabbed deeper, twisting blade toward internal seam.

The unit staggered.

He activated Anchor Point on its damaged leg.

Stabilized the fracture.

Then kicked the joint sideways.

The entire leg snapped.

The vanguard collapsed.

He leapt upward and drove his blade through its chest core.

It exploded in silver fragments.

Dante ignited Solar Core and shot skyward.

The flying drones swarmed immediately.

They fired narrow energy beams in synchronized patterns.

Dante spun mid-air, flame arcs intercepting multiple shots.

One beam grazed his side.

He gritted his teeth and compressed flame into concentrated bolts, firing directly through drone cores.

Three exploded.

Five.

Ten.

More replaced them instantly.

Respawn from sky layer.

Continuous wave.

Mira slammed her foot into cracked pavement.

Gravity surged outward.

Two artillery platforms buckled under sudden weight spike.

She compressed gravity vertically, forcing one platform into the ground until its core ruptured.

Another artillery unit adjusted and fired at her position.

The projectile detonated mid-air from pressure change, but shockwave threw her back into debris.

System update.

[Defense Zone Integrity: 89%]

The enemy front line reached the edge of the barrier.

Heavy vanguard units slammed their weapons into it.

Each strike caused flickers.

Arav sprinted along the defensive line.

He activated Chrono Mark.

Time slowed.

He moved between vanguard units, striking cores with precise thrusts.

One.

Two.

Three.

Time resumed.

Explosions rippled across the line.

But more filled the gaps immediately.

The war simulation escalated.

From the gray sky above—

A larger silhouette descended.

Not drone.

Not artillery.

A flying command unit.

Winged but compact.

Holding dual energy cannons.

System alert.

[Floor Two Commander Unit Detected]

It fired both cannons downward simultaneously.

The blasts struck directly at the defense barrier.

The barrier integrity plummeted.

[Defense Zone Integrity: 72%]

Dante saw it first.

He launched upward, intercepting mid-air.

The Commander rotated effortlessly and fired a close-range blast.

Dante blocked with flame shield, but the impact drove him backward through a ruined building wall.

Arav clenched his jaw.

He activated Chrono Mark again.

Time slowed.

The Commander's core pulsed brighter than others.

Located at center torso, protected by rotating shield plates.

He needed distraction.

Time resumed.

"Mira! Pin it!"

She reacted instantly.

Gravity compressed around the Commander mid-air.

Its flight path faltered slightly.

Arav leapt onto a partially collapsed tower structure.

He sprinted upward using debris as stepping points.

Dante re-engaged from below, launching flame bursts to force the Commander into evasive patterns.

The Commander adapted quickly.

It split into two smaller projections briefly.

Illusion or duplicate.

Arav activated Chrono Mark again.

Time slowed.

Only one projection cast a shadow.

Real target identified.

Time resumed.

He jumped from collapsing debris and slammed directly into the Commander's chest.

He jammed his blade between rotating shield plates.

The plates clamped down on the blade.

Trapping it.

The Commander fired point-blank energy blast.

Arav used Anchor Point on his own position.

Stabilized momentarily.

He grabbed the Commander's torso with his free hand and forced authority surge into its core.

Golden energy collided with white distortion.

The core cracked.

The Commander convulsed violently.

Dante fired a concentrated Solar spear into the exposed crack.

The core shattered.

The Commander exploded mid-air.

Shockwave knocked remaining drones out of formation.

System update.

[Commander Unit Eliminated]

The sky darkened further.

Instead of weakening—

The battlefield intensified.

New wave spawning.

This time—

Tank-sized quadruped siege beasts emerged from behind rubble lines.

Each equipped with shoulder-mounted cannons.

Artillery units doubled.

Drones multiplied.

System update.

[Wave Escalation: Phase Two]

The defense barrier flickered again.

[Integrity: 64%]

Arav's breathing steadied.

He ran straight toward the nearest siege beast.

It fired a heavy shell directly at him.

He activated Chrono Mark.

Time slowed.

He stepped aside slightly and let the shell pass within inches.

It detonated behind him against the barrier.

He sprinted up the siege beast's armored flank.

He plunged his blade into the cannon joint.

The beast roared in mechanical distortion and shook violently.

He held on.

He drove his blade deeper into its neck seam.

The core glowed faintly beneath plating.

He twisted.

The beast collapsed sideways.

Dante incinerated another siege unit with sustained flame stream.

Mira crushed two artillery units simultaneously by collapsing the ground beneath them.

The battlefield was chaos.

Smoke, flame, silver fragments everywhere.

The defense barrier flickered dangerously.

[Integrity: 51%]

Arav saw it.

A massive artillery cannon forming at the far end of the battlefield.

Three times larger than previous units.

Charging slowly.

Energy building inside barrel.

If it fired—

The barrier would collapse instantly.

System alert.

[Breach Probability Rising]

He sprinted toward it immediately.

Vanguard units attempted to intercept.

He cut through them without slowing.

Dante noticed the target and followed.

Mira forced gravity spikes to clear path.

The massive cannon fired before they reached it.

The projectile streaked toward the barrier.

Arav activated Time Anchor Lock.

Time froze.

The projectile hung mid-air.

Massive.

Dense.

He felt the cost immediately.

HP draining.

He ran toward the frozen projectile.

He couldn't redirect fully.

Too heavy.

He instead sliced through its rear stabilizer field.

Cracked it.

Time resumed.

The projectile destabilized mid-flight and exploded prematurely far from barrier.

Shockwave still massive.

Barrier flickered.

[Integrity: 34%]

Too close.

Arav staggered.

HP dangerously low again.

But the cannon was still intact.

Dante launched upward and dove directly into the cannon's barrel with full Solar Core output.

Flames compressed beyond previous limit.

For the first time—

His flame shifted color.

Bright gold-white at center.

He screamed and drove energy deeper.

The cannon exploded violently from inside.

The shockwave blew Dante backward across battlefield.

System update.

[Major Siege Unit Destroyed]

The enemy wave faltered briefly.

Arav looked toward Dante.

His aura was different.

Solar Core output stabilized at higher level.

System flicker near Dante.

[Solar Core — Stage Two Activated]

Good.

Very good.

But the battlefield wasn't done.

The ground split open across the entire war zone.

Massive fissures spreading beneath them.

The defense barrier flickered violently.

[Integrity: 28%]

From the fissures—

Colossal armored humanoid units began rising.

Twice the height of siege beasts.

Each carrying tower shields and massive energy blades.

Three of them.

Elite guardians of the wave.

System alert.

[Floor Two Elite Titans Detected]

The three Titans marched toward the barrier simultaneously.

Each step caused shockwaves.

If even one reached the barrier—

It would shatter.

Arav exhaled slowly.

No retreat.

He activated Chrono Mark lightly.

Time slowed.

Three targets.

Too large for quick kill.

He resumed time.

"Split!"

Dante charged left Titan.

Mira targeted right.

Arav took center.

The central Titan swung its massive blade downward.

He dodged barely.

The blade cleaved entire building behind him.

He ran up the Titan's shield arm and stabbed repeatedly at its elbow seam.

Armor barely scratched.

He activated Anchor Point on the elbow joint.

Stabilized microfracture.

He kicked violently.

The arm jerked unnaturally.

The Titan roared and backhanded him across the street.

[HP: 63% → 41%]

He forced himself up.

Dante's Titan was burning under sustained golden flame.

Mira's Titan struggled under crushing gravity but still advancing.

The barrier flickered dangerously.

[Integrity: 19%]

Arav needed to break one fast.

He activated Chrono Mark again.

Time slowed.

He observed central Titan's shield.

The shield wasn't solid.

It projected a field from its core.

He resumed time and shifted target.

He sprinted behind the Titan.

Climbed its back using debris.

He drove his blade into the spine seam.

Armor resisted.

He forced authority surge through blade.

Golden veins flared.

The seam cracked.

He stabbed deeper.

The Titan grabbed him with one hand.

Lifted him high.

He punched directly into exposed seam with his other hand.

Authority clash erupted.

The core flickered visibly through chest plating.

Dante saw it.

He redirected flame blast toward exposed chest.

Mira compressed gravity from above simultaneously.

The Titan's chest core shattered violently.

The massive body collapsed forward.

Shockwave rippled.

System update.

[Titan Eliminated: 1/3]

Two remained.

The barrier was barely holding.

[Integrity: 11%]

Dante roared and unleashed maximum Solar Stage Two output.

His flames now mixed with golden streaks.

He burned through the left Titan's shield projection.

Mira crushed its knee joints.

Arav sprinted across battlefield debris.

He leapt and drove blade through exposed chest.

Second Titan shattered.

[Titan Eliminated: 2/3]

The final Titan reached the barrier.

It raised its blade high.

The barrier flickered at 6%.

Arav activated Time Anchor Lock one final time.

Time froze.

HP draining dangerously.

He sprinted across frozen battlefield toward the Titan.

He climbed its massive body using frozen debris.

He reached the raised blade.

He drove his authority-infused hand directly into the Titan's head seam.

Five seconds nearly gone.

He pulled.

Time resumed.

The Titan convulsed violently mid-swing.

Its blade froze inches from barrier.

Core destabilized.

Dante and Mira struck simultaneously.

The final Titan exploded in fragments.

Silence fell across the battlefield.

The remaining enemy units dissolved.

The defense barrier stabilized faintly at 4%.

System update.

[Objective Complete: Defense Zone Held]

[Floor Two Cleared]

The war simulation began dissolving.

Ruins faded.

Smoke vanished.

The gray sky cleared.

The battlefield compressed into light.

They stood now on a circular platform once more.

Breathing heavily.

Wounded.

Exhausted.

A staircase formed upward again.

But before they could move—

The platform trembled.

The air thickened.

The space in front of them distorted.

A new figure formed slowly.

Not mechanical.

Not Guardian shard.

Not correction unit.

Humanoid.

Wearing dark armor with faint silver lines.

No weapon visible.

It stepped forward calmly.

System flickered violently.

[Floor Two Hidden Supervisor Identified]

It looked directly at Arav.

"You adapt quickly."

Its voice was neutral.

Controlled.

Dante stepped forward slightly.

The Supervisor ignored him.

It raised one hand.

The staircase behind them vanished.

The platform expanded outward into empty darkness.

"No further ascent," it said.

"Until evaluation."

Arav's eyes sharpened.

The Supervisor's aura was different from previous enemies.

Denser.

Focused.

And watching.

The floor wasn't over.

It was beginning again.

The Supervisor stepped closer.

And the darkness around them shifted into a new battlefield.
