MIREYA POV
"Always be prepared for the unexpected," Jax said, his voice calm but carrying a command across the training grounds.
He turned his attention to the others. "Anya of House Pyrris, you'll face Kaela."
Kaela squared her shoulders, nodding, ready.
"Curran of House Virel, you're up against Tavian," he continued.
Tavian stiffened, fists clenched, eyes sharp.
Then… his gaze landed on me. My stomach dropped.
"Lastly… Faye Duskbane, you face me," he said, pointing directly at me.
The ground seemed to tilt beneath me.
Everyone gasped. Whispers rippled across the crowd.
She's fighting the Enforcer…
My hands trembled. My heart pounded so hard it felt like it could burst.
He could kill me. He could end me in a single move.
I forced myself to breathe. Focus. Don't panic.
My eyes met his hazel ones again, and I could feel that sharp intensity, that silent warning, cutting through me. He wasn't smiling this time. He was deadly serious.
