The mage formed another spell, far bigger than the ones that had aimed for Lizzy and her mates. With crystal clarity, she could see what was happening. The shell that the mage had formed around himself was impenetrable to his enemies, but it also appeared that it would deflect whatever spell he aimed at it back towards his own body. "Stop! You're going to blow yourself up!"
She shouted the words before her brain caught up with her. Maybe it was slightly selfish of her, but if she let him eliminate himself, it was less blood on her hands. So why was she warning him? Her inner thoughts warred with her instincts to save him and she winced as she saw the spell growing quickly out of control. The magical energy poured into the sigils in unstable waves, causing the air around him to warp as it formed tendrils above his staff.
