The Lost Vampire System Chapter 29 - System Hunters

Jareth was chugging along in the hot sun, heading toward the medical building. He couldn't tell if the sun was genuinely hot or if it was his 40% weakness to the sun. Either way, he continued to make his way toward the building. The Half-ling was worried, to say the least, about Keira's reaction. He was also worried about whether the school would find out what he had done.

At the medical building, Keira was lying on a bed unconscious. A nurse was looking at her condition. She had bright green eyes and jet-black hair, with a mask on her face. She was beautiful enough that students would get injured for a chance to see her. She was observing the bite mark on Keira's neck and noting the blood loss.

"She lost some blood," the nurse said. "I don't think there is anybody at this school with a blood evolved power. Maybe a Becifer got through from one of the portal rooms. Please check it out."

She looked up at a masked guard standing next to her. The guard nodded as he left the room.

The nurse continued to look at Keira, but she didn't do much else except place a bandage over her neck.

"You'll be fine," she whispered. "Just some blood loss, but no internal injuries. This will be the first time a Becifer just drank the blood of a human and didn't eat you. If the culprit was left up to my imagination, I would say it was a vampire." She chuckled softly. "Fortunately, they don't exist."

She got up to look at the other patients. A few minutes later, Jareth had entered the building. The building was five floors high, so Jareth had to figure out which floor she was on. He went up floor by floor until he got to the top floor. There were some single rooms, and there were rooms with more than one bed with curtains drawn. He walked up to a door that had five slots, but there were two names on the chart. He ignored the first one as the second name said "Keira Griffin."

Now I know her last name, Jareth thought as he entered the room.

Keira was at the far most bed, and Jareth walked over to her bed and sat in the chair next to Keira. The nurse noticed that someone had entered the room. She patted the girl's head that she was looking over and walked over to Jareth.

"Who are you to her?" the nurse asked.

"I'm a new friend," Jareth replied. "Since we only met yesterday."

The nurse nodded as she looked at Keira again. She put on a single glove and pressed her hand on Keira's forehead.

"How did you know she was here?" the nurse asked. "She didn't arrive not too long ago."

Jareth didn't answer right away as he started to panic.

Did I come here too soon? The half-ling's heart began to race.

"Chill out," Apollo said. "Just say word travels fast and I heard about it minutes ago."

Jareth calmed down before he answered.

"Word travels fast," Jareth answered with a steady breath. "I heard about it minutes ago."

"I see," the nurse said as she placed a thermometer in Keira's mouth. A moment later she pulled it out. "Your cute friend seems to have some blood loss. I think a Becifer might have somehow made its way through one of our portals."

Jareth's eyes widened, but the nurse just thought that Jareth was reacting to the Becifer and not the blood loss.

"Don't worry," she said. "I've told the guards about it, and they'll be sweeping the base for any signs of this Becifer. Unfortunately, because families don't want people to steal their techniques to learn their Evolved powers, there are no cameras in student areas."

Wow, Jareth thought. I completely forgot about cameras. I'm glad that there isn't any.

You could hear a sigh in Jareth's head, as apparently Apollo had forgotten about cameras too. "Lucky us."

"Thanks for the update, nurse," Jareth said.

"You can just call me Amara," the nurse said.

Amara stood up from her seat.

"I have other patients to look after. If she wakes up, feel free to tell me," Amara said with a smile that you could somewhat tell even through the mask as she left the room.

That was when his Forwatch made a beeping sound. Jareth looked down and it said there was a message from Madison Budak.

"You can send messages on those?" Apollo wondered in Jareth's head.

"Apparently," the Felkin muttered as he opened the message.

"Jareth, we need to talk," the message began. "Where are you?"

There was a reply bar at the bottom of the message.

"You should probably tell her to her face what had happened between you and Keira," Apollo suggested.

"How does she know that it was me?" Jareth's thought was projected to Apollo.

"I don't know," he admitted. "Just tell her where we are. Assure us that her loyalty belongs to us and not the system."

Jareth nodded as he replied to Madison's message. After that, Jareth looked at Keira's delicate face, which had a huge bandage on her neck. Right now, Jareth did not have any urge to drink her blood.

"Any urges?" the god asked.

"No."

A few minutes later, Madison peeked her head into the room.

"There you are," she said in a rather quiet voice. "Would you mind telling me what happened in NYXIS, you little…"

She trailed off as she noticed Keira was lying next to where Jareth was sitting. Besides that, she noticed the bandage on her neck. Jareth could practically see the gears in her head turning faster as she connected the dots.

"Wh…wha…what happened to Keira?" the Cambion demanded in a low growl as she sat on the chair that the nurse had sat on.

"What do you mean what happened in NYXIS?" Jareth asked.

"Nu uh," Madison wiggled her finger. "That can wait now." She lowered her voice drastically. "Did you do this?"

He looked around before answering.

"Apparently I can't tell that I am hungry within NYXIS," he said in a whisper. "I came out and it surged forward to the front, and Keira was there. I physically could not hold back."

Madison slapped her hand to her face like this was a mild irritation.

"All she wanted was someone to learn the wind Evolved power with her, so I sent her your way. Whether you wanted to learn it or not is entirely up to you. I didn't expect that she would be a blood bag to you."

"I didn't mean to," Jareth strained this.

"We just have to keep her silent when she wakes up," Madison said, "or have her join us."

Jareth nodded. "Now what happened in NYXIS?"

Madison went to show Jareth the article, the image, and the new video of most of the incident that happened during the chase.

"She used the artifact that she bought off me on you," Madison said. "Did she see you?"

"No," the half-ling replied. "All she could have possibly gotten is my hair and parts of my back. I used my sun power to shield myself."

Madison sighed.

"It's going to be a pain going back in," Jareth said.

"At first," Madison said. "It's good for followers. I'm sure people will watch your fights more. Just don't look too evil and you might have a faction by the end of your three years."

Jareth nodded, and they sat there waiting for Keira to wake up.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, there was a decent‑sized island hidden from the rest of the world. On the island, in a throne‑like room, a beautiful woman sat on a golden throne. She was wearing an armor‑dress as she watched a video from a tablet that one person was holding up for her. There were other people in the room who were watching from their phones. She was a beautiful woman with curly blonde hair and brown eyes with a touch of hazel. Her name was Marguerite Youngblood, and she was currently watching a clip of Jareth healing from LightTrapper's attack, one of the two videos shared online by LightTrapper.

LightTrapper was Jareth's opponent right before he faced off against CyberGirl. When she saw the news on the NYXIS main page, she decided to share the two videos that anyone could watch at any time about CrimsonDawn's two fights on her social media page. You could say they blew up within a couple of minutes. The first one looked irrelevant, so she didn't share that.

Marguerite squinted as she could see that CrimsonDawn healed from his injuries in the same way her leader did, just at a slower pace. She noted that, based on all of the Evolved abilities registered with her through the years, there were only a few blood‑evolved powers, but none could heal like this.

"He's a vampire," one of Marguerite's people noted, holding the tablet. "Now we don't usually care if vampires happen to play NYXIS, but what I noted was that this particular vampire seems to have an Evolved power."

The video continued to show Jareth using his sun powers on LightTrapper, and she watched the next video with CyberGirl.

"This…CrimsonDawn," Marguerite said as she looked up from her tablet. "Is either the first of his kind or he is in possession of the system. We need to apprehend him by the order of the Celestial Avatar. I will contact Lord Khan and inform him that we need his army so that we may have no difficulties."

She stood up from her seat as her people seemed to back away in fear. They weren't afraid of her, but afraid of Khan.
