S.H.I.E.L.D. agents stood in a tense standoff, guns raised at Chen Ye and his group.
Yet Chen Ye and Tony seemed unfazed by the charged atmosphere. They walked calmly toward the elevator, their expressions composed.
The agents exchanged glances, their eyes filled with confusion and hesitation.
The weight of their firearms pressed down on their hands as each man wrestled with the question: *Should I fire?*
Just as the agents wavered, a figure emerged from the end of the corridor.
It was Coulson, a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. His arrival brought a collective sigh of relief from the group, as if they had found their anchor.
Coulson approached the agents and nodded, signaling them to stand down.
His voice steady, he said, "Go outside and check for injured colleagues who need assistance." Though reluctant, the agents obeyed and quickly withdrew from the scene.
Turning to Chen Ye and Tony, Coulson's face twisted with a complex mix of emotions, dominated by deep-seated hatred.
Gritting his teeth, he said, "Director Fury wants you upstairs."
His voice was thick with resentment and helplessness, as if he were enduring immense pain.
Despite his reluctance, Coulson led Chen Ye and Tony toward the elevator.
The elevator doors slowly closed, sealing them off from the outside world.
Inside the elevator, the atmosphere remained tense. Coulson stared fixedly at Chen Ye, as if the elevator's fall could take Chen Ye down with it, in which case he would have hesitated not a moment to cut the elevator cable and take Chen Ye down with him.
The hostility and hatred radiating from Coulson were impossible for Chen Ye and Tony to ignore.
Tony couldn't resist teasing Chen Ye, "See? You're really hated."
Chen Ye rolled his eyes at Tony, thinking to himself, *If anyone's the reason he hates me so much, it's you! And you're just enjoying the show.*
He remembered his leisurely days in Hell's Kitchen—drinking tea, slacking off—and wondered why he'd gotten involved in this mess.
At that moment, he felt the hundred million dollars he'd been paid was insufficient. He'd thought he'd just be escorting Tony home, but now he had to retrieve a corpse? What a hassle.
"So, I'm out? You can deal with Black Nick Fury yourself?" Chen Ye made a move to press the button for the first floor.
Tony quickly grabbed his arm. "No, no, no! Let's go together! You took my money! What's wrong with the client making a few jokes?"
Tony didn't dare face Black Nick Fury alone. If he went, he might not come back—or at least lose a piece of himself. After all, he was the one who'd caused the trouble.
Just as Coulson was about to lose his patience with Tony and Chen Ye's flippant interaction, he stood at the elevator door and witnessed their insufferable, teasing banter, as if they were deliberately provoking his patience.
However, the elevator doors finally opened, and he stepped out first, as if he had been granted a reprieve.
Coulson led Chen Ye and his group inside and then left.
Inside the office, Nick Fury's cold gaze fixed on Chen Ye and Tony. His eyes darted between the two men, as if trying to find their weaknesses.
However, Chen Ye seemed oblivious to his gaze. He settled into a comfortable position as if he were in his own home and said to Nick Fury, "Seriously? We're guests, and you're not even offering us a drink? Is this how S.H.I.E.L.D. entertains visitors?"
Black Nick Fury said in a low voice, "Cut the crap. State your purpose."
*Guests*? If he could actually defeat Chen Ye, Black Nick Fury would have slapped him across the face.
Every time he heard Chen Ye's name, it brought a fresh wave of headaches. Chen Ye, however, remained unbothered. "Come on, we're meeting for the first time, right? No need to be so tense."
"I'm here on two counts," Chen Ye said. "First, on behalf of our generous benefactor Tony, I'm here at S.H.I.E.L.D. to request Bucky's body."
"Second, you promised me I could take some items from your collection. I'll just grab a few while I'm here."
Tony, sitting beside him, nodded in agreement.
Black Nick Fury understood the first request, but he hadn't expected Chen Ye to come to his turf and still expect to take things from him.
Frowning, he glanced at Tony. He hadn't realized Tony knew the truth about his parents' deaths and was curious how he'd found out.
He had only learned that recently himself. In the entire world, probably very few people knew the real cause of the Howard couple's deaths.
Then, Black Nick Fury looked at Steve, who was still bound by Chen Ye behind him. He understood that Chen Ye was using Steve as a bargaining chip and knew Tony would never join the Avengers.
Between Steve and Tony, he could only choose one.
After a moment of weighing the pros and cons, he said, "I can give you Bucky's body if you release Steve. But the previous condition is void. I won't fund the enemy."
His tone was firm and decisive, as if telling Chen Ye this was his bottom line.
Steve was incredibly important; he was the soul of the entire Avengers, the one who held them all together.
Compared to him, Bucky's body was worthless. Even though Black Nick Fury knew that handing over Bucky's body would make Captain America hate him, he didn't care. In fact, he believed Steve would hate Chen Ye even more than him.
Black Nick Fury had agreed to Chen Ye's terms earlier because they hadn't yet burned their bridges. Now that those bridges were burned, he wouldn't back down.
Even if they didn't know the purpose of the treasures in the S.H.I.E.L.D. warehouse, they wouldn't give Chen Ye even a piece of scrap metal.
"I promise, I'll only borrow the Cosmic Cube for a while and return it to you later. You can rest assured," Chen Ye said calmly and firmly, as if trying to soothe Black Nick Fury's emotions.
Yet his words carried an undeniable authority, as if telling Black Nick Fury that his decision was final.
His eyes glinted sharply, as if warning Black Nick Fury that he wasn't joking.
*How does Chen Ye know about the Cosmic Cube?* Black Nick Fury stared at him in disbelief.
Although S.H.I.E.L.D. had been researching the Cosmic Cube for quite some time, they had made no progress.
Chen Ye's sudden mention of the Cosmic Cube caught Black Nick Fury completely off guard. He began to suspect that Chen Ye knew its true value or had some ulterior motive. The thought made him even more determined not to compromise.
Chen Ye watched Black Nick Fury, who was deep in thought. "I promise, I'll only borrow the Cosmic Cube for a while and return it to you later. If you don't hand it over, I'll have to take it myself."
This was contingent on the Space Stone being useless to the System. If it proved useless, Chen Ye had no intention of keeping it. After all, the artifact would only attract Thanos's attention. It was better to leave it with S.H.I.E.L.D. to draw the fire.
Just as the atmosphere reached a stalemate, Chen Ye's eyes suddenly turned crimson. A powerful aura emanated from him, pressing down on Black Nick Fury. He was preparing to unleash Chaos Magic to demonstrate his resolve.
If Black Nick Fury refused to surrender the Cosmic Cube, he would destroy the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. organization.
