Chapter 107 - The Frustrated Black Egghead

As Chen Ye and his group entered the S.H.I.E.L.D. office building, he could sense the tension in the air.

S.H.I.E.L.D. agents emerged from the corridors on both sides, their eyes filled with deep fear of Chen Ye.

Their guns were tightly aimed at Chen Ye and Tony, as if they would fire without hesitation at the slightest movement.

Chen Ye looked up and noticed a camera quietly observing him from a corner.

He knew Nick Fury must be closely monitoring everything from the control room.

A playful smile curled his lips as he slowly addressed the camera. "Are you sure you want your people to keep dying, Black Egghead? You know they can't stop me."

He continued, "I'm not really the type to go on a killing spree. I just want what I came for. All this fighting and bloodshed is so tedious."

His tone carried a weariness, as if all this conflict and battle had nothing to do with him.

After speaking, Chen Ye turned his gaze to the armed agents. He smiled slightly and said, "Everyone, stay calm. I'm really not that kind of person."

His voice carried a genuine warmth and kindness, as if he were trying to reassure these S.H.I.E.L.D. agents that he wasn't a cruel and merciless enemy.

Chen Ye truly believed he wasn't a bloodthirsty person. Compared to the others from Hell's Kitchen, he considered himself a model citizen.

However, the friendly smile Chen Ye thought he was giving appeared demonic to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. The wariness and tension in their eyes seemed to materialize, causing them to grip their firearms even tighter, desperately seeking a shred of security from the cold metal.

They knew all too well that this man before them, though outwardly refined and gentle, was in reality a dangerously cunning individual.

Tony rolled his eyes after hearing Chen Ye's words. He never imagined Chen Ye could be so shameless. *Just as expected from someone from Hell's Kitchen,* he thought, *lying without batting an eye.* But he didn't retort. He himself wasn't bloodthirsty either.

His only goal from the start had been to retrieve Bucky's body. If he could minimize the bloodshed, that would naturally be the better choice.

Tony disliked violence and hated seeing innocent people harmed.

Despite this, he had to admit that Chen Ye was right. Compared to the others in Hell's Kitchen, Chen Ye was indeed a model citizen.

Tony had thoroughly investigated him and found that aside from his intense obsession with money and his dislike of Black people, Chen Ye's conduct was otherwise exemplary. He was sincere to his friends and kind to those around him. His establishment of a school and adoption of orphans in Hell's Kitchen demonstrated his compassion and sense of responsibility.

What was particularly noteworthy was Chen Ye's belief in equality. Whether facing the beggars of Hell's Kitchen or a billionaire like himself, he treated everyone with the same respect. This quality earned Tony's deep admiration and was one of the reasons he was willing to befriend Chen Ye.

Despite the vast differences in their backgrounds and social standing, their friendship transcended these barriers, becoming a rare and precious bond.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the camera, Nick Fury heard Chen Ye's words, his eyes burning with cold fury.

To Nick Fury, Chen Ye's "kindness" was nothing more than arrogant provocation and a mockery of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s incompetence.

*This Chen Ye is utterly lawless!*

*We must eliminate him at all costs!*

Nick Fury roared inwardly, his hands clenched into fists so tight that his knuckles turned white with rage.

He would not tolerate anyone so casually disrespecting S.H.I.E.L.D., nor would he allow such brazenness on his turf.

Coulson, standing nearby, met Fury's gaze with unwavering resolve. "Director, rest assured," he said, "not a single S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is a coward. We will definitely bring down this arrogant bastard Chen Ye."

*If a man can endure this, what can he not endure?*

As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Coulson was furious at the enemy's audacity in provoking them at their own doorstep. Even knowing Chen Ye's formidable strength, he was prepared to sacrifice everyone to make him pay!

Director Fury turned to Coulson, his gaze piercing. He understood Coulson's feelings—the same burning anger and resentment.

*When had S.H.I.E.L.D. ever faced such a challenge?* But he also knew that anger alone couldn't solve the problem.

He had to remain calm and think, to find the best solution.

Gritting his teeth, Nick Fury said, "Send the agents back and have the medics quickly rescue the injured ones outside. Bring Chen Ye and his team up."

His voice was filled with helplessness and bitterness, but he knew it was the best option available.

They couldn't afford any more pointless casualties.

"Director! Are we just letting them come up so easily?" Coulson's voice was filled with confusion and doubt.

His eyes widened as he stared at Director Fury, as if searching for a rational explanation.

Fury looked at Coulson and sighed deeply. "It's an order. We can't have any more pointless casualties!"

Coulson's expression turned complex, a flicker of resentment and anger crossing his eyes.

But he understood that as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D., he had to obey orders.

Gritting his teeth, he turned and left to carry out the command that made him feel so powerless.

Nick Fury understood Coulson's resentment—he felt it just as keenly.

If anyone here wanted Chen Ye dead more than anyone else, it was him.

If a human wave tactic could take down Chen Ye, Fury would have sent all his agents without hesitation.

He wasn't the type to be a saint; as long as the mission was completed, he would use any and all resources and people at his disposal.

But the problem was that a human wave tactic was utterly meaningless against a superpowered being like Chen Ye.

It would be better to just tell them to stand down and let Chen Ye's group come at them.

He had also considered pitting the remaining Avengers against Chen Ye, but he knew that was equally unrealistic.

Dr. Banner and Professor X had already left, leaving only the Fantastic Four at S.H.I.E.L.D.

Nick Fury's gaze turned to the window, his heart filled with anticipation.

He had already contacted Carol, who was far beyond Earth, and urged her to return as soon as possible.

He knew that only when the Avengers and X-Men were fully assembled could they possibly take down Chen Ye in one fell swoop.

"Carol, come back quickly. Earth needs you," he murmured softly, as if calling out to the distant cosmos.
