Chapter 31 - Old Steps

Rain heard Celeste humming before she even opened the door. 

She heard Celeste humming to herself, which was strange enough on its own, followed by the sound of bare feet on stone, which was stranger, followed by a soft thud and a muttered "no, that's not it," which made Rain push the door open because now she had to see what the hell was going on.

Celeste was in the middle of her office with her boots off, one arm extended, balanced on one foot, in what was very clearly the tail end of a spin she'd just botched.

Rain leaned against the doorframe and crossed her arms.

"..."

Celeste looked up. Her hair was loose, which it never was during work hours, and there was a faint sheen of sweat on her forehead. She straightened up and brushed a strand out of her face with the back of her hand.

"Don't."

"I didn't say anything."

"You were going to."

"I was going to ask if you've lost your mind, but I figured I'd let you tell me yourself."
