Chapter 7 - The Rhythm of Together

Lio, do you want to team up?

"Sure," Lio replied.

I'll throw the first shuriken. You throw your shuriken at the clone, then we'll switch.

They then teamed up and Lio hit one of the clones…

"Yes! It worked!" Lio said excitedly.

Now it's time for me to hit the other clone.

Lio then helped Aerin hit the clone…

Awesome. Hopefully the girls are doing ok.

"I'm sure they are doing fine," Lio replied.

Later…

"We did it," Lyra yelled excitedly.

"Good job kids," Mr. Sato said.

I don't know what is test was for, but I can't help but feel like it was too easy.

"That's because this test wasn't for you to actually hit me with your shuriken like I said it was, but rather to test your teamwork and ability to notice patterns," Mr.Sato explained.

That explains a lot.

"But either way you passed. The remaining five days of training will be the days you learn skills that full fledged assassins use. Get some good rest the next five days will be harder than the last forty-eight hours," Mr. Sato explained in a serious tone.

At home…

"How was your day Aerin?" Arthur asked.

It was long, but it's only going to get harder from here.

How was yours?

"It was good but I needed to discuss some new developments with you Aerin. They are about my brain cancer and how it's affecting me," Arthur said in a sad tone.

"Remember when I mentioned that brain cancer could have an affect on my memory?" Arthur asked.

Yes.

"Well, that's exactly what it's doing. So for the next few months, I'll be giving you life lessons every day so you can live on without me. I don't have much longer, and I don't know how long I'll remember you, but as long as I do, I'll try to help you with some life lessons," Arthur explained in a sad tone.

"So for today you're life lesson is, find a group of friends who can help you achieve peace and happiness. Those friends are the most valuable and can make a place of chaos and despair seem like a tranquil garden," Arthur said in a joyful tone.

Ok old man I'll keep that in mind. I'm going to go out for a bit, I'll be back soon.

At the edge of the city on the city walls…

Damn you! Why, why, why, why? He's the only one who has taken care of me, he's my only family! Why, why would you take him from me!

In that moment, Aerin felt something he had been holding in—fear, grief, anger, and despair. But in that same instant, he felt something deep within him offer comfort, as if a presence were whispering, "It's okay. You will be alright. I understand your pain, and this will help you in the end…"

I should go home, I can't let precious time with my only family go to waste.

To be continued…
