Peter's
I sat on the edge of the large bed with my back resting against the wooden headboard. I stretched my legs out in front of me, feeling the soft weight of the expensive blankets. Lily was right there with me. She rested her head on my thigh, her long dark hair spilling across my lap like a pool of ink. The room was very dim and quiet. Only the small lamp on the nightstand was turned on. Its warm light glowed against her skin, making her look like she was made of gold.
I felt a sense of peace that I only ever felt when I was alone with her. In the outside world, I had to be the clever Mate, the one who was always planning three steps ahead of everyone else. But here, in this room, I could just be myself.
My phone buzzed once on the sheets right beside my hip. The vibration felt loud in the silence.
