Mount Justice, Training Grounds.
Ever since that League meeting, Ben had worked through a lot of things.
When you obtain something, you always want more—and little by little, you can lose yourself.
Before he transmigrated, all he wanted was the same thing Ben Tennyson wanted: to transform into all kinds of cool alien heroes.
But once he actually had the Omnitrix, he ended up forgetting that original intention. For the sake of being able to transform freely at will, he'd locked himself in the lab and—while using Grey Matter, despite having almost no real foundation—kept trying to "research" and crack the watch.
It was like trying to fish a needle out of the ocean.
Batman's words had hit like a hammer to the skull. Ben finally decided he needed to genuinely experience and understand every single alien in the watch.
Honestly, even the original Ben—famous for improvising—had still done specialized training for each form, with help from Grandpa Max.
And Ben? He'd been relying on half-remembered "settings" from his previous life, basically playing pretend. In terms of real understanding, he was probably worse than the canon kid Ben.
Besides, the Omnitrix was never meant to be a weapon. Azmuth created it as a tool to promote interspecies understanding across the universe—an ark of DNA carrying the genomes of countless intelligent species.
His obsession with copying "Ken" and using Grey Matter to brute-force hack the watch… in Azmuth's eyes, that would probably just make him look like another Albedo or Vilgax.
If he wanted to be a real hero, then right now he was basically at the same level as Ben Tennyson on day one—completely unprepared.
In the original series, Ben had Grandpa Max and Gwen with him as he grew.
In this world, Ben had his fellow heroes—people who could help him become the real thing.
On the training floor, Shazam and Cyborg were there with him, helping him practice and learn the Omnitrix forms.
Ben flipped open the Omnitrix dial, rotated it to a stylish silhouette, and slammed it down.
A green flash exploded.
Pale green crystals began growing out from his wrist, spreading across his body. They layered, thickened, and transformed—four crystalline spikes jutting from his back.
When the transformation completed, his whole body became diamond-like crystal. His height surged to two meters—a perfectly sculpted, brutal-looking crystal powerhouse.
"Diamondhead!"
Through the mirror-like sheen of his own arms, Ben admired the absurdly cool form and couldn't help blurting out:
"Seriously… how could I forget how awesome this guy is?!"
Shazam was staring with eyes practically sparkling. No kid could ignore something this cool.
"That's so sick, Ben! What can he do?"
Ben formed his crystal hands into sharp spikes, swung them twice through the air, and casually reshaped the crystal into different forms as he explained:
"Simply put—control the diamond-like crystal on my body."
He aimed at the targets already set up on the range, focusing on firing crystal shards.
Crystal control was an innate ability of Petrosapiens. With the intention set, Diamondhead's body responded on instinct—smoothly launching the spikes from his hands.
The crystal projectiles slammed into the targets.
Shazam clapped like he'd just watched the greatest highlight reel ever.
"This alien is so cool!"
Diamondhead had always been one of Ben's favorite forms. After just a little time adjusting to the power set, his confidence shot up.
"Victor—turn on live combat training mode for me!"
He waved to Cyborg, who was adjusting the training equipment in the distance. Ben wanted to test the base's training arena in a real fight simulation.
"Get ready," Cyborg warned.
Connected to the control panel, he received the request and reminded Ben to brace himself before activating it.
"No problem!"
Ben instantly dropped into a fighting stance, scanning his surroundings.
From all directions, mechanical drones—wrapped in parademon-style AI projections—poured into the arena.
…
Outside the training floor, Green Arrow—who had just agreed to join the Justice League and had even become friends with Hal—was watching the training monitors with Batman.
Seeing a kid slap a watch and turn into a towering alien crystal brute, Green Arrow couldn't help thinking the world had finally become something he no longer understood.
Watching the crystal alien start live combat training, Green Arrow glanced at Batman and asked:
"You're not going down there to give him some pointers?"
"I can't," Batman replied, calmly.
He didn't take his eyes off the screen.
"I don't understand the strengths and weaknesses of those aliens. I can't give meaningful guidance."
Every alien in Ben's watch had its own unique species abilities.
And because Batman lacked that understanding, he couldn't offer much correct advice during Ben's form training.
That was exactly why, in the last meeting, he'd pushed Ben to learn his own transformations more seriously.
Green Arrow clicked his tongue. With a sharp, focused stare, he pressed:
"Then why are you sitting here watching?"
"I'm learning what these aliens can do," Batman said evenly. "So I can prepare contingency plans in case a similar threat appears."
Green Arrow's mouth curled into a grin.
From the moment he'd met Batman, he'd felt it—these two were cut from the same cloth.
They clashed on certain values, sure. But that didn't stop them from being solid war buddies.
And as for Batman's habit of keeping contingency plans on literally everyone on the team, Green Arrow's only comment was:
"Make sure you share a copy with me."
Batman didn't look away from the monitor. He only replied in that flat, emotionless tone:
"If there's a reason to use it, I will."
