Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Delhi Inferno

The air in the command center was thick with tension, the hum of computer servers providing a low-frequency backdrop to the chaos unfolding on the monitors. Veer stood at the center of it all, his eyes locked onto a pixelated satellite feed of Delhi.

"Anmol," Veer barked, his voice cutting through the noise. "Give me a try to see the area with the camera. I'm heading there right now."

Anmol's fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard, his face pale under the glow of the monitors. "I'm trying to patch into the city's surveillance grid, Veer. But the interference is massive."

On the other side of the room, jataksha was already on a secure line. He looked up, his expression grim. "To Chief: What is happening there? I am heading for Delhi immediately."

Anmol turned in his chair, his eyes wide as a new notification flashed red on his screen. "No! This can be the way of victims to put our full consideration in the place of the blast!" he shouted, his voice cracking with urgency. "You must be active because a blast can occur anytime. You should stay there and tell every troop in every place in India to be active! The Chief is already going to the place of the blast."

Jataksha paused, the weight of the command settling on his shoulders. He knew the risk of a secondary distraction was high. "Roger that!" he replied, pivoting back to the communications array to alert the national defense sectors.

The Weight of Leadership Veer grabbed his tactical gear, but before he could exit, he turned to the younger operatives: Shiven, Rahul, and Karan. They stood stiffly, their faces a mixture of fear and determination.

Veer looked at them for a long moment. "Shiven, Rahul, and Karan," he began, his voice softening slightly but remaining firm. "I know Rahul and Karan are not professional yet, but we have to take them. They should also know about the situation and how much worse it could go. Sometime in the future, they will be leading their own squads. This is where they learn what it means to stand in the fire."

The two younger recruits nodded, though their hands trembled slightly as they checked their equipment.

Just then, Anmol's voice came over the intercom, sounding more frantic than before. "Chief! In the blast, everything is on fire! I don't think you can go there. The thermal readings are off the charts. It's a furnace."

Veer didn't hesitate. He knew that if they waited, the city would burn to the ground. "Anmol, send the five firebrigade units immediately," he commanded while walking toward the transport vehicle. "And send some security with them. I will reach there in thirty minutes."

Into the Smoke The journey into the heart of Delhi felt like descending into an urban nightmare. The sky, usually a hazy blue, was now a bruised purple and black, choked by pillars of oily smoke. As Veer's vehicle tore through the streets, the sound of sirens echoed off the skyscrapers like a mournful choir.

True to his word, Veer arrived exactly thirty minutes later. The scene was worse than the satellite images had suggested.

"On the spot!" Veer shouted as he leaped from the vehicle, the heat instantly singeing the hair on his arms. "Reached at the spot! Shiven, take the wheel. Rahul and Karan, take your arms. Shiven, you will give commands to Rahul and Karan."

The three moved with newfound purpose. Shiven took a position of oversight, guiding the younger two as they established a perimeter around the burning wreckage.

The Turning Point Suddenly, the atmosphere changed. The roar of the fire was joined by the screech of tires and the heavy boots of reinforcements. The Army and the Police were beginning to swarm the area, their flashing lights reflecting off the shards of glass that littered the pavement. High-ranking officials and Army investigators were already beginning to comb through the outer edges of the blast zone, looking for the "why" behind the"what."

For a moment, there was a lull—a heavy, suffocating silence where only the crackle of flames could be heard.

Then, the silence shattered.

CRACK-BOOM.

The sound of a gunshot rang out, followed by another, and another. They weren't coming from one place; they were coming from the rooftops, the alleyways, and the shattered windows of the surrounding buildings.

"Gunshots from multiple directions!" Shiven yelled, diving for cover behind a charred car.

Veer's eyes narrowed as he scanned the perimeter. He saw the muzzle flashes. This wasn't just a rescue mission anymore; it was an ambush. The fire had been the bait, and the smoke was their shroud.

"What is happening!?" Veer roared over the cacophony of gunfire. He grabbed his radio, his voice echoing the realization that had just hit him like a physical blow.

"Everyone take cover! We are surrounded! It's a trap!"

As bullets sparked off the pavement and the fire raged behind them, Veer realized that the true battle for Delhi hadn't ended with the blast—it was only just beginning.
