Jenny was slightly on guard at first, but soon realized the two weren't coming for them. Having seemingly just gotten off work, their postures were visibly relaxed as they headed toward the restaurant up ahead, chatting animatedly.
Listening closely, their conversation reached Suzy's ears.
"I heard the base hunted a few deer recently, and the venison is supposed to taste incredible. Finally got a chance to try it today."
"Plus it's half price—what an absolute steal."
"Stop talking, my mouth is already watering."
"Where'd you say these deer were hunted again?"
"Heard it was over in the East Zone a while back. Who knew there'd still be wild animals after all this time in the apocalypse? Real rare stuff."
"Who cares as long as there's good food? I heard this place does a mean dry-pot venison. Let's pack some back for Old Uncle Reed later."
"Surprised you're still thinking about him."
"..."
Laughing and chatting, the two walked straight into the restaurant ahead.
