Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 - Transition

The twins were gathering their personal belongings, preparing to move into the Kaos Team headquarters, where they would now live—just as Tristan and Jayden were doing.

Luna frowned.

"Ugh, why do we have to move to another place?"

Yuna replied patiently, "We don't have a choice, Luna. We're being watched now by the Fauvism. They won't stop until they've wiped us out completely. If we stay in our home, not only are we in danger—but so are our loved ones."

"But Tristan left too and yet his friend Satomi still died," Luna pointed out.

"That only happened because Satomi did something that threatened the Fauvism. If our loved ones and friends don't meddle with them, they'll be safe."

"That's not true."

"What do you mean?"

"If you and I disappear, Mom, Dad and our siblings won't sit around doing nothing. They'll try to find us. They might end up doing something reckless—just like Satomi did—and hurt themselves."

"…That's actually a real possibility. What a mess."

"One step at a time. First, we'll move into the team's headquarters. From there, we'll keep watching over our loved ones and make sure they stay out of harm's way."

"Yeah… That sounds like the best option."

Once they had finished packing, the girls made their way to Kaos Team headquarters, bringing their belongings along.

It was early afternoon when they arrived. As they stepped inside, they found Jayden and Tristan seated at the dining table, eating lunch.

Tristan looked up in surprise.

"Luna? Yuna? What are you doing here?"

Luna crossed her arms.

"Normal people welcome their guests by saying 'Welcome'. You, on the other hand, make people want to leave and never come back."

Jayden chuckled.

"She's right."

Yuna stepped in, "Let's not make a fuss. Tristan's right to be surprised—we didn't tell anyone we were coming except for Merrick and Chris."

"Wait—does that mean… you're moving in too?"

"Yes. The headquarters has six rooms, so there's enough space for all of us."

"Then go ahead and pick the ones you like."

"We actually already have specific rooms here," Luna said with a shrug.

Tristan blinked, confused.

"…I don't get it."

Luna explained, "Back when Kaos Team was first formed, the original members each had their own room—Salvador, Clara, Sonny, Merrick, Yuna and me. We helped build this place."

"I didn't know that."

"Well, now you do. Anyway, I'll take my stuff to my room."

"Need help?"

"No thanks. I've got a lot of stuff, sure—but I can carry it using momentary teleportation."

Yuna frowned.

"Luna, you already used your teleportation over and over again to move both our stuffs and me. You must be exhausted."

"Not really."

Tristan stood up.

"Let me help you. It won't kill you."

"…Fine. Since you insist. My room is the third one on the left."

He picked up her things and teleported them to Luna's room. It was dusty, the bed and closet covered in a thick layer of grime.

Tristan wrinkled his nose.

"Is this a room or a landfill?"

Luna : " I haven't cleaned in over a month. Too much happened lately."

"I see. So even though you two don't live here full-time, you still keep your rooms clean?"

"Of course."

"Well then, want some help cleaning this place?"

"Didn't expect you to be a neat freak."

"I am. I'll use air power to sweep out the dust and blow it out the window."

"I'll open it—go ahead."

Luna opened the window and Tristan used his powers to whip up a current of air, removing dust from every corner.

Luna : "We'll leave the window open for a while to ventilate the room. I'll start organizing my stuff now."

Tristan : "Need a hand?"

"No, I've got this."

"Alright then. If you need anything, just call."

"Thanks for helping me "

" You're welcome "

Meanwhile, in another room, Jayden was helping Yuna carry her belongings.

Yuna : "Thanks for helping me bring my stuff in."

Jayden : "No problem at all."

"So… that battle you had with those attackers last time—was it easy? Or very easy?"

"Well, we split up. I fought the guards who used weapons powered by wonder stones. Tristan and Chris handled the three men who killed Satomi. Even though they were outnumbered, it was an easy fight for them."

"That's new info. So the enemies enhance their followers' weapons with the power of the stones?"

"Exactly."

"Then… we could do the same, right?"

"What do you mean?"

"We could enhance our loved ones' weapons too. That way, they can defend themselves."

"I hate to disappoint you Yuna but for that to work, the one supplying the power has to be close by."

"…That's a problem."

"Don't worry, Yuna. We'll figure something out. But can I ask you something?"

"Sure, go ahead."

"Do your family members know that you two are heirs of a wonder stones?"

"No. They don't know. And we're not planning to tell them. Not now. It's too dangerous."

"I don't know… Maybe they're already in danger. The enemy could use them as bait to lure you in."

"That's why we disappeared. If they can't contact us, they can't threaten us."

"But that won't last forever. We can't stay hidden. We need to strike first and destroy those Fauvism idiots once and for all if we want peace."

"You're right. The best defense is a strong offense."

"Exactly."

Meanwhile, Merrick was in his room, preparing for tomorrow's legal case—he worked as a lawyer. Suddenly, his phone rang. The number was unknown.

A bad feeling crept up his spine. He didn't answer.

He lived with his aunt, whose husband had passed away. She was asleep in her room.

The phone rang again. And again. Until, frustrated, Merrick finally picked it up.

"Who is this?" he demanded.

"Merrick! It's me—why didn't you answer? This is ( Stalin ) your client. Don't tell me you forgot my voice?"

"…Sorry. I didn't save your number. My phone was away from me. Just heard it now."

"That's not like you."

"Yeah… sorry again."

"Anyway, I have some important updates on the case."

They discussed the details, and once the call ended, Merrick stared at his phone, sighing in frustration.

"Damn it…"

The next morning, Tristan had left early to buy some supplies for his dog, Badwin, at a pet store he often visited while avoiding the Fauvism's notice.

After buying food and a new collar, he stepped out of the store and used momentary teleportation to move a distance away—only to sense a strange power

Turning around, he saw someone approaching through the bushes.

A young man in his twenties , Tan skinned with silver hair and blue eyes.

Tristan set the bag down and immediately drew his weapon but the stranger raised his hands.

"Relax. I'm not your enemy."

Tristan : "Cut the act. If you're not, then why are you following me?"

"If I were your enemy, do you think I'd reveal myself so easily?"

Tristan hesitated.

"I promise—I mean no harm," the man said gently.

Tristan slowly lowered his weapon.

"Then who are you? What do you want if not to kill me?"

"My name is ( William Farso ) . I'm here to tell you something important."

"…What is it?"

"It's about Satomi—your late friend. Before he died, he tried reaching out to someone who could stand against the Fauvism."

Tristan's eyes widened.

"You know about that?"

"Yes. Because I'm the one Satomi was trying to contact."

Conflicted, Tristan stood there, unsure whether to believe him or not. This could change everything.

"Then why didn't you show up before he died, huh?" Tristan snapped. "He was reaching out to you and you let him die!"

"I didn't know," William replied solemnly. "We were communicating through carrier pigeons. I know it sounds primitive but it was safest for us. When I didn't receive a message for over a week, I got worried. I came to his city… and found out he had died."

"Fine. But explain how you tracked me down."

"Satomi told me everything about you, Tristan. I want revenge for him too."

"You're late. I already got revenge. Personally."

"…You did it alone?"

"Does it matter? It's done."

"…I'm glad to hear that. Then… I suppose there's nothing left for me here. I'll go."

"Wait. William, you know about the Fauvism and how active they've become. Are you sure you can stay safe alone?"

"I'm not sure. I just try to stay out of trouble."

"Where do you live?"

"In a remote village near this city."

"Alone?"

"Yes. I've lived alone since my grandfather died two years ago. But I still have relatives in the village who are important to me."

"Do they know you have powers?"

"No. No one does. And I don't even have full control over my power "

Tristan stepped forward and offered his hand.

"Then let us help. Join Kaos Team. We use our powers for good. We'll help you master yours, too."

William hesitated—then shook his hand.

"I'll think about it."

Tristan handed him a piece of paper.

"This is our location. Come in three days if you decide to join."

Three days passed.

Tristan waited at the appointed spot. No sign of William. Just as he was about to leave, a familiar voice rang out.

"Wait!"

He turned to see William running toward him.

William : "Sorry I'm late. You picked a place that's hard to reach by public transport."

Tristan : "My bad."

"So… this team you mentioned…"

"I'll take you there. Hold my hand."

"…Why?"

"Just trust me."

Tristan hold William's arm and teleported them both to the Kaos Team headquarters.

Luna and Yuna were playing with Badwin in the garden. Seeing the two approach, they ran over.

Yuna : " Welcome, member number ten "

Luna : "Nice to meet you, newbie."

But William froze, staring at them—his eyes wide.

Tristan : "What's wrong? Why are you looking at them like that?"

Luna: "Hey, is this your first time seeing twins or something?"

William pointed at Yuna.

"You… the girl with the mole on her cheek. Don't you remember me?"

Yuna : "…You know me?"

"Yes. I know you very well "
