Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Arriving at the Shareholders' Meeting to Wreak Havoc

Meanwhile, outside the hospital room.

Drew Thorne toyed with the key in his hand as he watched his assistant hurry out of the elevator.

He raised an eyebrow. "Did you give it to her?"

The assistant wiped the sweat from his forehead and nodded, still looking a little shaken.

As he was driving away just now, he kept feeling a chill, as if something unclean was following him.

He didn't relax until he saw Drew Thorne.

"What's wrong? Why are you sweating so much?"

The assistant had been with him for many years and was one of his most trusted confidants.

Drew Thorne found it amusing; he'd never seen his assistant in such a state.

'Did delivering a phone to that young woman scare him this badly?'

The assistant adjusted his collar, a slight blush rising on his face as he looked at Drew Thorne.

"Boss... that Miss Sterling... is she...?"

Seeing him hesitate, Drew Thorne frowned.

"If you have something to say, just say it. You've been with me for so long; don't you know I hate it when people mumble and hesitate?"

"It's just that, I think Miss Sterling is mentally unstable!"

The assistant forced himself to say it. Even now, the memory of Jane Sterling's behavior sent a chill down his spine.

Drew Thorne was taken aback. "Unstable?"

"Boss, when I went to deliver the phone, Miss Sterling was talking to thin air!"

The assistant couldn't help but shudder at the thought of the scene.

Even as a man standing over six feet tall, he'd still be scared encountering something like that in the middle of the night.

Drew Thorne's eyes narrowed slightly. He recalled that the first time they met, she had also claimed she could see his comatose grandfather.

His detective's intuition was piqued.

"Is that so? Interesting..."

The next morning, Jane Sterling got out of bed, full of determination.

She threw off the covers and found Luna Nash lying beside her.

However, as an incorporeal soul, she didn't have much of a presence.

After waking Luna Nash, Jane Sterling quickly grabbed the evidence from the table.

Luna Nash was still a bit drowsy, rubbing her hair as she followed Jane Sterling out of the Cainiao Post station.

But as soon as she stepped outside the station, a searing sensation instantly engulfed her entire body.

"AHH—"

She cried out and immediately retreated back into the Cainiao Post station.

She looked at her singed hair and arms in a panic.

"What's going on?"

Hearing her cry, Jane Sterling rushed back inside. She saw the light burn marks on Luna and slapped her own forehead.

"I've read in novels that ghosts can't be in the sun."

Then, Jane Sterling glanced at the weather outside.

The sun was shining brightly. Even though it was early in the morning, the sunlight was already intense.

Hearing this, Luna Nash let out a wail of despair.

"What are we going to do? Being a ghost is so troublesome..."

Jane Sterling scanned her surroundings and promptly found a black umbrella in a corner.

The umbrella was huge, big enough to shelter three grown men, let alone one person and one ghost.

Luna Nash, still shaken, tentatively stood under the umbrella, ready to jump back at a moment's notice.

While she was still cowering slightly, the person and ghost together took a step forward, out into the sunlight.

Luna Nash's entire figure was shrouded by the black umbrella, completely unharmed.

Luna Nash instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

'Being a ghost is too much trouble. You can't even be exposed to sunlight. It's better to be human.'

The two of them arrived at the base of a large building.

Jane Sterling fixed her hair and adjusted the backpack on her shoulders.

Clutching the evidence in her hand, she walked straight inside.

But just as she got inside, a security guard blocked her path.

"Hold it! You don't work here, do you? Non-employees aren't allowed inside!"

The guard was rather aggressive. Jane Sterling froze for a second, then turned to look at Luna Nash beside her.

Luna Nash didn't look happy either. With her hands on her hips, her expression was grim.

"I used to come to the company with my dad all the time, but I've never seen this guard before. Don't tell me that bitch replaced everyone in the company with her own people while I was in a coma!"

The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed, and she gritted her teeth in hatred.

'She had put up with that bitch for so many years.'

'Even though she was still her father's favorite in the family.'

'She was just a daughter, after all. That mistress had given him two sons.'

'So, in a way, the mistress's status in the family was still higher than hers.'

At this thought, Luna Nash clenched her fists and swung them at the guard's face.

Of course, they passed right through.

Jane Sterling pursed her lips, then turned to the guard with a sweet smile.

"Sir, I'm a courier. I have a delivery for upstairs. I heard there's an important meeting today, and this is a crucial document. I have to deliver it in person to make sure it gets there."

The guard listened to her, eyeing her suspiciously.

Jane Sterling's outfit was probably the misleading part.

She looked like a rich young lady, not a courier at all.

Instantly, his suspicion deepened.

He started shoving Jane Sterling while shouting.

"Go on, get out! I haven't heard anything about a courier delivering documents today. If you keep causing trouble, I'm calling the police!"

'Looks like this guy isn't an idiot. With security this tight, today's meeting must be very important.'

Jane Sterling was pushed outside, and her expression immediately soured.

She decided to threaten the guard.

"Let me be honest with you. I'm a distant relative of the lady of the company. She asked me to look up some information that's needed for today's big meeting! If she finds out how you treated me, watch out—you'll be out of a job in minutes!"

Seeing that the first approach had failed, Jane Sterling had to try a different tactic.

Using what she'd just heard from Luna Nash's muttering, she decided to bluff the guard.

And just as she expected, when the guard heard this, his expression instantly became flustered.

A moment later, he composed himself and took another, more serious look at Jane Sterling.

The young woman before him was clearly dressed in extraordinary fashion.

And her freshly dyed hair—it was a balayage.

In a huge city like Aethelgard, a style like that would cost at least five thousand.

In an instant, the guard had pretty much figured out her identity.

His attitude changed in a flash.

"Oh my, so you're a relative of the madam! Why didn't you say so earlier? And pretending to be a courier... If you'd just told me, I would have let you right in."

As he spoke, the guard put on an obsequious smile, swiped his card to open the gate, and ushered Jane Sterling inside.

Jane Sterling walked through the gate with her head held high.

Following Luna Nash's directions, she went straight to the top floor.

The meeting was due to start in a few minutes. Jane Sterling gripped the object in her hand tightly.

She rushed to the top-floor conference room just in time. A number of people were already gathered inside.

Jane Sterling scanned the room. It was mostly filled with older, balding men.

Aside from them, sitting in the center was a stunningly beautiful woman who looked quite young.

However, she exuded an air of mature confidence.

"That's my dad's mistress."
