Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Drew Thorne's Infallible Detection

Jane Sterling finally understood. She looked at Director Lawson, who was defending her.

"Director Lawson, I knew you were holding a shareholders' meeting today, so I made a point of coming. I have something here that a friend of mine asked me to deliver, and I wanted to take this opportunity to get it to you. I'm certain that once you see it, you'll change your minds."

"Hmph, this is our company's business. What's a little girl like you meddling for? Who are you, anyway? If you don't leave now, I'm calling the police!"

Zane Nash, who was standing to the side, had a nasty look on his face. He walked up to Jane Sterling, about to lay a hand on her.

Director Lawson, who was also nearby, quickly stopped him.

"Wait, what do you think you're doing? You're a man in your forties, trying to strike a young woman?"

Zane Nash's hand froze in midair, held in Director Lawson's firm grip.

Zane Nash's face flushed with embarrassment.

"Th-… Director Lawson, I…"

Director Lawson pushed up his glasses and discreetly guided Jane Sterling to the other side.

"Let the young woman finish."

Jane Sterling quickly opened what she was holding and laid it directly on the table.

"Distinguished shareholders, please take a look. This evidence proves that Mia Miller, who stands before you, betrayed Walter Nash, and that her two sons are not of Walter Nash's bloodline."

"Not only that, she secretly plotted against Walter Nash's only daughter, Luna Nash. Right now, Luna is in the hospital, her life hanging in the balance. Mia Miller orchestrated all of it!"

As soon as she finished speaking, the entire conference room erupted in an uproar.

"What? How could this be?!"

"Quick, quick, let's see what that stuff is."

"The people in these photos… aren't they Mia Miller and Zane Nash?"

"That's right! The photos are a bit blurry, but you can still vaguely make them out. Don't tell me they were having a secret rendezvous late at night?"

"Look, look! Look at this DNA report! My God! Those two kids really aren't Director Nash's sons!"

The room instantly filled with clamor. Jane Sterling stood to the side, her expression calm.

In reality, her legs were shaking uncontrollably.

'She had never been in a situation this intense before.' Facing men who were old enough to be her father, Jane Sterling forced herself to stay composed.

Just then, Zane Nash suddenly swung his fist and lunged straight for Jane Sterling.

"AH—"

Caught completely off guard, Jane Sterling quickly covered her head and froze on the spot, unable to think of what to do.

But the pain she expected never came. Director Lawson had firmly caught Zane Nash's fist, pinning him to the side.

"What do you think you're doing?! This is a shareholders' meeting! Are you trying to resort to violence?! I think we should call security, but to restrain you! What's so secret about this evidence that we can't see it? You did it, but you won't let others look?"

The documents had already been passed around among all the directors. Seeing this, Mia Miller instantly panicked.

She quickly stood up, desperately trying to shred the evidence.

Jane Sterling stood to the side and said coldly,

"Thinking of tearing it up? I have backups. As many as you want."

Luna Nash stood to the side, thoroughly enjoying the sight of Zane Nash and Mia Miller squirming.

She gave Jane Sterling a thumbs-up.

"Jane, you're amazing!"

Jane Sterling raised an eyebrow at her.

"And that's not all. The real father of Mia Miller's children is none other than the man currently being restrained by Director Lawson—Zane Nash!"

Instantly, gasps could be heard all around the room.

The directors all wore expressions of utter disbelief.

"What? The kids are actually Zane Nash's?"

"That explains everything. Walter Nash isn't even a week in his grave, and this Zane Nash is already calling us for a meeting to change ownership. He's so impatient, something must be fishy!"

"To think he colluded with Mia Miller to try and swallow the entire company for themselves. How despicable!"

Seeing their scheme exposed, Mia Miller and Zane Nash's expressions turned vicious.

"None of this is real! DNA reports can be faked! You're all fools for believing a little girl's words!"

Luna Nash stood to the side, watching her lose her composure, and said coldly,

"How could the results from Drew Thorne's agency possibly be wrong?"

Hearing that somewhat familiar name, Jane Sterling froze.

"What? The results are from Drew Thorne's agency?"

She'd heard from Jasper Thorne before that Drew Thorne had opened a private investigation firm, and that it was the best one around.

The fee for a single case was far more than a small company's entire annual revenue.

Thinking of this, Jane Sterling quickly added,

"You think the information uncovered by Drew Thorne's private investigation agency could be fake?"

Hearing Drew Thorne's name, the seated directors fell silent again, then began whispering amongst themselves.

"Drew Thorne is a major player. If his agency produced these results, then the evidence must be real!"

"Exactly. It seems this evidence is the proof of their guilt."

Mia Miller stared at Jane Sterling, utterly crestfallen, and grabbed the edge of the table for support.

"What? How is that possible? Drew Thorne's company..."

She turned and looked Jane Sterling up and down.

"How could you possibly afford to hire Drew Thorne's private investigation firm? This stuff must be fake! It can't possibly be real! His agency's fees start at seven or eight figures for a single case. You don't look like someone who can afford that."

Hearing this, Jane Sterling was momentarily stunned.

'Seven or eight figures!'

She glanced at Luna Nash, who nodded with a pained expression.

That was all the allowance money she had saved up for 18 years.

For her father's sake, she had truly gone all out.

Seeing Jane Sterling's stunned silence, Mia Miller thought she had found a weak spot and gave a vicious smile.

"Besides, who the hell is Drew Thorne? Even if his agency came up with these results, does that make them 100% true?"

"It seems someone is questioning the results from my, Drew Thorne's, detective agency?"

The moment Mia Miller's words fell, the conference room doors opened again.

A man in a sharp suit walked in from outside.

The man swept his gaze over the chaotic conference room, and then his eyes landed on the somewhat stunned Jane Sterling.

Instantly, Drew Thorne froze as well.

He hadn't expected Jane Sterling to be here, and Jane was equally surprised by Drew Thorne's arrival.

But in such a chaotic situation, it wasn't a good time for them to talk.

Drew Thorne took in the chaotic scene. He had been outside and had heard what Mia Miller said.

He flashed a confident smile.

"This evidence was indeed uncovered by my company."

The moment he said this, a new wave of commotion swept through the conference room.
